The next edition of the Half Ton Classics will be somewhere in French waters. There are several good boats around that are avaliable to buy at a very reasonable price for a 30ft boat.

Six boats from the West Country are showing an interest in taking part.
The Solent can provide at least five boats, with the East Coast another five or six. Chia Chia will be coming out of hiberantion again! The Belgian contingent will be bringing Thirteen boats - allegedly! Ireland will be sending one for certain, with the possibility of another. France has one boat fully paid up, with rumours of another seven..... All that's needed is a Brewery to join the party! |

The notice of race for this years Half ton Classics will be posted shortly. There have been rumours from the organisers that they are expecting more than 30+ boats to come from France, Belgium, Ireland, Finland and the UK following expressions of intent and interest.
There are many production boats that would qualify from the UK and hopefuly they will come and enjoy the competition, with one race scheduled to take everyone around the Isle of Wight. There will be a class dinner one evening and a daily prizegiving.

The dates for the next Ecover Half ton classics for 2011 are 21st to 26th of August with the regatta to be held in Cowes and hosted by the Royal Corinthian yc.
Berthing will be in Sheperds Marina at a very reasonable price with the option of launching on the Island for visitors also at a very reasonable cost. Racing will include a round the island long distance race as well as the usual windward leward and buoy races. There must be plenty of older yachts out there that would qualify to take part in this regatta, possibly with more performance and age allowance to make some of the Grand Prix boats look sick! |

Yet another Half tonner will be joining the growing UK fleet, and raising the numbers in Falmouth to five boats. Miss Whiplash has been purchased from Southern Ireland by Garry Denning and Nick Hurst - both of whom are former J24 sailors.
The boys will be sailing across from Glandore, around Lands End and past the Lizard, ending up in Falmouth. |

Has anyone out there in cyberspace seen or heard of the wherabouts of a Farr 1976 Half Tonner called Swuzzlebubble? She was in Irish hands racing out of Dublin and then just disappeared from sight, and hasn't been heard of since.
Also where is Glider 2 based now? Thanks for any information............ Edited by Juggs |
