Ok got humped!
1st race ended up getting involved in Pre start antics with a laser and pico and the boats all started breeding. Eventually got away behind everyone and battled gusty winds against the tide. Downwind leg very biased and over shot the mark and almost ended up at Norway! Second race pretty miserable start again and a p course that meant little chance for kite downhill. Did a little better but still not great. Nevermind in was good fun anyway. There's always the next race. |

in contrast i had an absolute hoot today; perfect beats with the tide and then honking back down the harbour against all with 10-15kts. only problem was a lack of competition, it ended up being a straight dogfight between me and a (slightly out of practice) D-one. it continued to prove the standard "d-one quicker upwind, 100 quicker downwind" pattern and the downwind bias meant that i was a decent chunk clear by the end. would love to have seen how well it would have gone with some merlins and f15s thrown into the mix. tomorrow is going to be similar but without the helpful tide and a whole pile of merlins and f15s thrown in for fun.

I did enjoy watching the laser mating with you!! As for the p course well the musto and 200's seemed to cope ok. The wind died enough to allow them to kite most of the reaches. The breeze at the start of racing meant it would of been very tricky and would allow the traditional boats a bit more of a chance but thats handicap racing !
Still i did overrule our sailing secetary and rear commodore sailing who wanted an even shorter course.

Yeh the musto is an ex world champ and 200's love beating. The 200's can hold their tiny kites much tighter than myself in decent breeze. Maybe it was the fact I was playing dodgems and had guff starts both times. Things can only get better. Boat of the day for me was the stratos. Ploughed it's way round the course with great pace! Unusual sight....

First Gul Grand Prix event of the year - DONE!
Queen Mary, in the sunshine and with a pretty decent breeze. 17 boats and some bloomin' good racing had in my opinion. Well done Alex you showed us all how it is done this weekend with some very consistent results. A report is to follow soon! |

First evening race last night in 1 to 3 kts of breeze, not the optimum RS100 conditions. With the top battens slackened right off still difficult to get the top to twist off. Putting on kicker, cunningham and then releasing kicker helps the top but you get vertical & diagonal creasing up from the tack. Anybody tried increasing shroud tension and mast pre bend with the deck chock in the really light stuff, to get the top end to twist away?
