Hey, thanks Mark. That's great - I didn't know there was an Icon class page.

Cheers.

The Y&Y team put together a video whilst testing the Icon in February.

Obviously I'm biased, but I think the video looks great and gives a good glimpse of what the boat is like.

The eagle eyed amongst you will spot that the jib has been re-cut since then and the layout has changed slightly (e.g. the kicker is now fixed to the mast foot rather than the base of the bulkhead).

Hopefully the full  review is in next months Y&Y, due out on Thursday?
Many thanks to Pete and Tom for testing the boat - hope you both get the chance to sail one in more breeze soon.

Leaves more wake than my Tasar. It will be interesting to see how much difference 30 years of development really makes.

How can you possibly tell that from a video? Apart from anything else crew weight makes a big difference, not to mention competence of sailor and speed through the water.

Icon vs Tasar, a match up would be good to see. Any chance of that happening?

By the way Icon could be considered 40 years in advance of the Tasar, not 30.

They've only raced against each other once, so far, at the Exmoor Beastie. It's a pursuit race, and winds were light and patchy, so maybe not the best race to use as a comparison but the Icon was 7th, tasars were 26th, 42, 43 and 45 out of 65.
I'd be extremely suprised if the Icon had more wake (implying more drag) than a Tasar, but progress can be measured by more than just speed anyway.

Come on Peaky, what would be the point of the Icon if it wasn't faster than the Tasar?

By all accounts I think it should be. It looks just like its parent boat, the NS14, although the sail plan is quite different. I will be very interested to see it out in some real breeze, ie 15kts+ to see if the larger sail area is managable by the target crew weight of somewhere around 150kg.
