Capacity of the viewing area is 4,600

7 days at £35 a ticket
7 days at £55 a ticket

Just short of £2.9m in revenue if sold out, I would imagine thats a pretty small percentage of the total for the games, and obviously there are costs associated, but potentially more revenue from catering rights etc..

Just wondering who's going to look silly if Weymouth and Portland Borough Council refuse the planning application?

Question: Will I be able to apply for tickets to the Sailing events?

Answer: We are considering a ticketed onshore area from which spectators would be able to view the competition. This area would have the added benefit of a video screen to keep spectators updated on the action. Please be aware there would be no seats - standing or sitting on the ground would be the option for spectators. Please visit London 2012.com for updated info.

Question:
I am not a wheelchair user but have additional accessibility requirements. Can I indicate these on my ticket application?

Answer: London 2012 is committed to meeting the needs of as many disabled people as possible, including those who require a seat but have additional accessibility requirements. When you apply for tickets, please indicate, for each session, if you have an additional accessibility requirement which would enhance your spectator experience or that of members of your party. All members of a party will be located together so you do not need to advise how many people have additional accessibility requirements. We will do everything we can to give you a great spectator experience, including enabling you to choose a location within the venue that best meets your needs. The options are:
-Seats with a direct view of a video screen for people who are deaf or hearing impaired (HI)
-Seats close to the action for visually impaired people (VI)
-Seats for people who need to be on the end of a row (EA)
-Seats for people who cannot manage many steps at the back or the front of a stand (EAS)
If you are applying by a paper form, in section 2,  please indicate, for each session, your additional accessibility requirement. All members of a party will be seated together.

Question: Ticketing of the Marathon and Race Walk events

Answer: During the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games there will be a number of free to view events, including the Marathon, Road Cycling (Road Race and Time Trial), Race Walk and the cycling element of the Triathlon.

The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) is proposing to ticket small sections of the routes for grandstand seating or standing, such as the start and finish line. This is why indicative ticket prices for these events were included as part of the Olympic Games ticket price announcement.

The majority of the routes will remain un-ticketed and free to view. We hope that Londoners, and visitors from across the UK, will line the routes to support the athletes and create a fantastic atmosphere for the events.

I hope this assures you that you can still take up this unique opportunity to attend an event during the London 2012 Games for free.

Question: What are the benefits of registering my details on this site?

Answer: You will be among the first to receive ticketing news, information about the sports at London 2012 and details of other exciting sporting events and offers. We will use the information you provide to understand your sporting preferences and to try and make sure you hear about the sports you are most interested in. It will also save you time when tickets are available for sale online between 15 March and 26 April 2011.

Question: Can I buy and use tickets as competition prizes or in an auction?

Answer: Unfortunately we are unable to offer tickets for use in auctions or competitions. After the application period for Olympic Games tickets opens on 15 March 2011, the terms and conditions of sale and other laws will mean that they cannot be used for this purpose.

The following answers might help you immediately. (Answers open in a separate window.)
Response Via Email (Katy ) 18/03/2011 02:10 PM
Hello,

Thank you for your email.

As previously advised, seating plans will not be available. Your application is for tickets in a particular price category rather than for specific seats. If your application is successful, your seating details will be printed on your tickets when they are sent to you in summer 2012.

All tickets are for reserved seating in a venue unless general admission is stated. Reserved seating means that each individual ticket is assigned a specific seat in the venue and only the ticket holder may occupy the seat. General admission means that you can chose your seat on arrival at the venue, in the price category you have purchased, on a first-come, first-served basis, or it allows you entry into a venue in which standing is permitted.

We hope this information has been useful. Please get in touch if you have any further questions.

Best wishes,
The London 2012 Ticketing Team.

Sailing
I've asked before about what the tickets for the sailing actually gets. I've had astonishingly poor answers. I'd hoped that by the time the ticket sales started that something more certain would have been sorted. £55 is quite al ot of money for a mystery. All your website says is:
----------
"A ticketed onshore area from which spectators can view the competition is under consideration. This area would have the added benefit of a video screen to keep spectators updated on the action. Please be aware there would be no seats – standing or sitting on the ground would be the only options for spectators. "
-------

It seems incredible that London 2012 sees fit to offer tickets without having finalised where the ticketed area will be and what will be on offer (apart from no seats). £55 is a lot to pay to watch a big screen, given that the bay offers many good vantage points for spectating.

It is an utter shambles.

Also, last time I sent an enquiry, the reply I got, as well as being rubbish, was buried halfway through a huge email with a load of irrelvant FAQ answers. please, don't send me all that this time, please only send me a relevant answer.

[---001:017339:33981---]

Is there someone we can complain to about this? These questions are clearly being answered by people with access to nothing more than the FAQ.

I've responded:
I've found out through other sources that the location is the Nothe Gardens at Weymout. I've even found out the capacity. It's also not actually got planning permission yet- which is by no means certain.
Surely it is is barely legal to be selling tickets when the plans are not finalised and planning permission is still to be granted? What on earth will happen if the local opposition wins out and the ticketed area is rejected?
Once more, the actual answer was buried deep in a pile of auto-generated responses.
Do those answering the questions actually have access to anything beyond the FAQ?
Also, will private spectator boats be allowed anywhere near (though clear of interfering) the race areas, or will only official boats carrying "prestige ticket" holders be allowed close?

Please, Y&Y, this farce HAS to be highlighted.

I've e-mailed the RYA pointing out this is not going to reflect well on Team GBR and asking if they can put some pressure on.

I've got a reply, apparently more details available on Monday.

Dear Mr Davies,

Thank you for your enquiry to the RYA.

As we have been informing our members and members of the public, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) are responsible for the ticketing of the official Olympic venues, including Weymouth.

The viewing area and facilities in Weymouth are still being planned by LOCOG and the local authority and we are hopeful to be able to share the current situation via a press release to be issued on our website on Monday 21st March.

We continue to suggest that all enquiries concerning the tickets need to be directed to LOCOG via their website.

Regards.

Message: As tickets for the Olympics have now been released and publicised in the press (including the RYA Magazine) I’d like to draw attention to the fact that no one from the ticket providers is actually able to confirm what you get for your £55 if you book a ticket for one of the sailing events. There is a large thread on Yachts and Yachting detailing one person’s quest to find this out http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7464&PN=7&title=paytoview-sailing Is there any thing you can do to get his (and my) questions answered. My comments on the thread are under the user name ‘Laser 173312’ and you will see that my opinion is it’s a complete rip off. As the body behind Scandia Team GBR I would hope you would see that this does not reflect well on the Games.

Dear Alistair,

We can confirm that we are permitted to sell tickets for the Sailing events for spectators attending the venue at the Nothe. Should LOCOG be unsuccessful in obtaining planning permission, successful applicants for sailing tickets will of course receive a full refund for the tickets they applied and paid for and your rights as a consumer will not be affected.

The tickets for this Venue will be sold subject to LOCOG obtaining this planning permission. With regards to private spectator boats, all boats with reserved anchorages/berths in Weymouth Harbour will be permitted to access Weymouth Harbour at all times during the competition through a designated, stewarded access channel.

No private spectator boats will be permitted within the race areas themselves to allow for fair racing and to protect the security of the athletes/event. Boats will be permitted in any open water areas outside of these race areas and Weymouth harbour. Details of the proposed plans for the water can be found at http://www.portland-port.co.uk/about_the_port/statutory_harbour_authority/regulation/HRO.htm.

We hope this information has been useful. Please get in touch if you have any further questions.

Best wishes,
Mike on behalf of The London 2012 Ticketing Team.

Question: Will I be able to apply for tickets to the Sailing events?

Answer: We are considering a ticketed onshore area from which spectators would be able to view the competition. This area would have the added benefit of a video screen to keep spectators updated on the action. Please be aware there would be no seats - standing or sitting on the ground would be the option for spectators. Please visit London 2012.com for updated info.

Best wishes,
Mike on behalf of The London 2012 Ticketing Team

So:
They've checked this through with the lawyers and have a procedure in place. GOOD.
No private spectator boats anywhere near the race areas. BAD- only spectator boats I guess will be the very expensive presitge package ones.

OInteresting from the charts that are linked- there's a small (0.6nm) race circle just of the Nothe Fort, outside Portland Harbour. I think it safe to assume that, planning permission and weather conditions on the days dependent, that this will be the race area used for the Medal Races- making viewing from almost anywhere but the ticketed area require very good binos (certainly, up at the prison on portland would be suboptimal).

In each Sail for Gold so far the race area off the Nothe has been used only for Match Racing with all the Medal Races taking place within Portland Harbour.

Obviously that may change for the Olympics. Where's Skiffman? He must know.

Sail For Gold hasn't had paying punters at the Nothe. that's what makes me supect the medal races may be there.
