Surely the answer is to keep expensive items - hull, sails, spars and staying one design, and to allow freedom with the rest. People like to personalise their boats, and however they do it, it doesn't make much odds to the speed.

What a great chance to compare.  All are most welcome to what is becoming this well established and challenging pursuit.

Cheers Simon.
Funny you say that Simon. I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Just finished setting up the lovely new X1 on stand F22 at the dinghy show. Really pretty! I hope you can come and see us there this weekend.

I have also just uploaded a headcam video of the X1 performing nicely in flukey light wind on the Thames at Hammersmith. This time with the GoPro on my head.

Enjoy!

What's all that fiddling about with that flappy little pole thingy?

I guess coming from darkest Norfolk y'all wont' have realised how the world has moved on and there are these kewell poles that come out as you pull the string that makes that balooney thing go up, huh even I know that much.

It's er 2011 now by the way, no-one built stuff like that this century, didn't anyone tell you?

Pity.

I wonder how many other folk there are like me that have only ever sailed boats where you don't have to do all that fiddling about with a pipe cleaning pole, and it all happens automatically?

Asymmetrics? They don't work dead downwind on a river.
Needs to sail more...

....tis called running....still done in some parts of Sussex. Works well in Chichester harbour where every thing seems to turn into a beat or run.

Some roll tacking by request...

BTW I was in 14s when we had conventional kites and enjoyed building complex pole systems and the conversion to asymetrics, but I think a simple manual system is what's needed on a boat like the X1. It has never been difficult.

Cheers!
