Normal racing = Sail faster than the other guys
Team racing = make the other guys sail slower than you.

there are only a few changes which can be found in appendix D of the RSS, the main ones are the 3 boat length zone is changed to 2, a change to rule 18 which means if you tack inside the zone you no longer have mark room and the removal of 18.4 which removes the requirement to sail your proper course if you have room and need to Gybe to make the mark.

However despite the small changes the way the rules are used changes completely.

There are some slight differences in a few of the rules now but in the old days we used to race under exactly the same rules as for individuals.

the winners are the team with the lower aggregate score, so e.g.,

123 beats 456 (obviously!)
any team scoring a 12 wins
235 beats 146
145 beats 236
any team scoring 56 loses

Add the scores of the 3 boats in your team together, and that of the other team. So, 1,5,6 scores 12 points (or 11 3/4? Would have been in my day) 2,3,4 scores 9, so an easy win for the other team. And if you bugger off in front, a good team will easily sail the 2 remaining boats to the back.

Yeah, just blast off to grab 1st place leaving your two team mates to be sat on and sailed back into 5th and 6th place by the other team who then cross the line with a winning 2,3,4.

Team racing is absolutely brilliant. I used to love doing it in my Merlin Rocket days.
