This is the best quote ever, from the Race Officer talking about Saturday's conditions -

"It could have been the dense cold breeze that you tend to get in the winter, which can make the breeze feel stronger"

No way was it blowing 20 knots as he claimed at the briefing. I think I was doing 20 knots at one point! It was certainly gusting over 30, either that or we were all seriously rusty.

I think it was just a ploy to get us all sailing, I'm not complainng though, it was fantastic!

On the insurance front I reckon that if the RO desides to run the race then you would be insured.

Lol i love how ppl role this one out, i guess if you go to the north pole the air is like treacle? nothing to do with air density all to do with wind shear, i think if i heard the RO say that i would have been concerned

I have known RO's to say we are going racing but you sail at your own risk!  Not sure how that stands but i think it helps!!!

Still windy here today as i am sat watching the water from my shop window, reckon its breezyer today than it was over the weekend.

Wind readings from the windy meter i have here never topped 40kts but was averaging 25 to 35kts, and on the saturday because of the direction this was a little sheltered, but by the looks of some of the faces coming off the water on saturday it looked like it was fun Wink

Talking to some rib drivers in the changing rooms on Sunday they were getting 40knot readings over a reasonable time frame.  Definitely wasn't 20knots average on either day by any means.  The lulls might have been 20 but some of those gusts were lethal!  Very happy boat and me made it round in one piece!

I see from the report that Smithy went away from the Tiger £1k better off. Nice.  I can't think of any other dinghy races in the UK that pay this sort of money?

It was stupidly windy, i don't kow how windy it was, but the waves and water temprature made it very tricky.  I had major brain freeze after spudily not wearing a hat.  I have certainly not sailed in much like it before, for the hour we were out upwind was mental.  Olly got washed off the boat, which is mad on a lake.  It was impossible for us with knackered rudder fittings meaning we had no control and the rudder was fully loaded upp and a kicker that was fully on but in hindsight only about half the kicker needed due to the fitting pulling out.  We did however manage to sail the boat back to shore hiking it flat with my foot holding the rudder somehwere near central which i was chuffed about.
