Came over today (Sunday) in the hope of getting some photos from the shore, but alas no racing.  One very hardy OK sailor went out for a blast, and I posted a few pics over in the Photos thread.

Great shots from yesterday!

reefed main, no jib, heavy boat - moving fast!

The Laser2000 was going very very fast. Didn't see it going upwind.

That was us! Thanks for that. Believe it or not, I ended up sailing it back with someone else in the Vago fleet... Was a good blast in the end, although, some of the gusts were just impossible, we were dumping both sails and fully out!
glad you got the boat back OK - you must have done well to sail back!  Looking from the shore at any point in time there were typically 6 to 8 boats capsized. and Sunday seemed windier

Damage list from one hours sailing Saturday:
* Kicker block ripped off (I wondered what went bang and why i could not get as much kicker tension on)
* Rudder pintles bent and loose
*Various Hook Damage (crew is like a freaking wrecking ball)
* Jib Ripped (Its an old one any way)
* Gel coat cracked out of mast gate from endless flogging on rig.
* Toe Strap elastic snapped

Boat is now in garage drying out, before a major overhaul and pimp session.  Photos to follow.

If your boat gets damaged whilst sailing in very strong winds, will insurance pay out? Do policies stipulate a max wind?And what about if racing is abandoned, like on Sunday.   Seems unlikely insurance would have payed up if the OK broke it's mast - or am I wrong?

we were talking about this at the weekend Peaky and i don't know seemed to be the answer!!  Although with the wind the way it was this weekend people were blown flat before things broke (if that makes sense) It would be hard to drive the boat to its max, so i guess what i am saying is it was SO windy that you couldn't load the boat up without being blown over before breaking stuff.  i saw one broken 800 rudder and very little, if anything else.  The stuff we broke was down to everything being 'end of season condtions' or from pulling on with brute force.  None of it is worth claiming for.

I think if you're on fully-comp (remember, the minimum for racing is 3rd party- ie covers you against running into someone else) they'll decide on a case-by-case basis, though if racing is called off (which it wasn't on Saturday when Russ broke stuff) that may well be taken into account. I have heard tale of certain sailors being put on "3rd party only" status by insurers that decided they were too big a risk for fully-comp.
