Not enough space to type the question out fully, but if there was a new foiler designed at the masses/larger person available would you be interested. lets say for arguments sake it was £15,000 retail? It needed as much sailing area as a Moth to sail, still had to be swam out to launch. But to all intense in purposes was an all round peoples foiler (Just wait for Doug Lord)

Not for me. I'm hate swimming. Judging by the amount of time even the top foiliers seem to spend in the water, I think there's a lot of technical hurdles to overcome before foiling becomes mainstream. If you're that fond of getting wet it makes a lot more sense to buy a pair of swimming trunks and a season ticket to the local baths.

I would suggest £15k is not for the masses

Why not £15k have you seen how much a Mach2 moth is?? you have to allow for the R&D costs, its not just designeing a new dinghy that floats in the water Jimbo stealing bits from other classes as i understand it its a bit more complicated then that.

Also £8k how much is a new Rs100 on the water, this is a load more technical then that mate! Surely it would need to be light to foil so almost deffinately carbon.

Boys I'm already on it and there's a very interesting proto I saw at the place I went to before Xmas.
So others clearly have it in mind But, I wanted mine to be capable of beach launching. And you'll also have to accept whatever you get, a light person will get planing before you, although I guess that could be just down to rig size. Now the skinny is, I have two choices, it's X amount and I get one boat but it wont last me very long if it turns out OK, then I'd have to go to Y amount do it all again and make a mould and five for a similar cost. Y-X = approx 4 grand. The (very clever) team I've got on this include young Dan Holman and Jamie Stewart who turns out to be a relative of Ossie Stewart another auld acquaintence from my murky past. My plan was obviously to build a multi functional device as a platform for me to enjoy all this modern stuff, without me having to spend hours learning how to do it. Now other than some rigging issues, they think the way I'm going about it although a bit coming from left field will achieve what I'm aiming for. So the first thing is for Dan to do the CAD bit then Jamie has some prgrammes that do all manner of calculations as to it's planing threshold, stuff I'd had no idea was around and such that I'd have given my eye teeth for back in the 'designing windsurf board' days. In essence if the computer says no we alter bits until it says yes. The foiling bit was a secondary part of what I wanted and tbh I was probably going to involve a really good guy I found down weymouth way who knows his stuff. The volume and waterline length of this craft will be more than capable of supporting Fatboys anyway so I'm kind of accepting of the fact however fast I manage to get the thing to go, some lard boy will take my pants down as he goes past in his, but hey it'll still be worth it if I get what I want out of it. I wasn't going to do this as any kind of 'commercial operation' at this stage but if there are others interested it would make more sense to build the five rather than the one and depending on wether it was felt the RS100 mast could eventually take a trapeze, it would make more sense for me to build this thing so I just plugged in the bits off the 100 since they are a known quanitity and it's better at least when building boards, to build the two bits separately rather than risk a totally new can of worms and not know what you have to alter to make it do what you want, anyway, y'all know where to find me if you're interested and I haven't finished the costing just yet. PS I hadn't gone out there all 'peoples foiler' for the obvious reason of not wishing at this stage to attract the sort of ridicule our friend Doug Lord enjoys, and anyway it's not me fabricating it, it's a bunch of Pro's who make proper stuff like Thames Raters, Rs 500's and 800's so proven track record.

I guess what i am trying to get at is that even if a foiler was available for everyone, i am not sure it would be that popular. Not just yet anyway. As i understand it the development within Moths is at a stage where an 85kg bloke can compete with the rest.

I think the latest fully tricked N12 on the water won't leave you much change out of 11k and I have heard of Merlins pushing nearly 20k...... |

Needs to sail more...

The AHD? I can find out, the windsurfing market is in a worse state than the dinghy business right now so people are reluctant to invest in stock, but if anyone will get one it'll be Solent Sailboards down at Calshot, give them a ring ask for John Popkiss, he'll know what's going on.
tbh they've been tried before and didn't catch on, like kiteboards there was one over at Whitstable it laid there for over a year, nobody is interested. What makes the Moth foiler interesting is obviously the class racing. What makes windsurfing interesting is jumping and wave riding not blasting back and forth although if you're locked on a lake I could see the attraction.
