BCYC (Cheddar) closed too. Haven't sailed there since September - as soon as we got enough water back in to sail, it froze!

So....

It has been a lot worse early on in the week, Coxswain was saying it had been frozen out to beyond "Club" which is the mark well out into the lake.

There is a decent on shore wind today which has piled most of it up against the shore. Plates of ice a good 30-40mm thick. Worst bit is the ice on the slips generally and the "ski jump" that has formed on the bottom on the waterline.

Apparently laucnhing and recovering safety boats is pretty hard work when you have to crawl down the jetty to the boat as standing up results in falling in.

They were talking of making a judgement on GGP on the Thursday based on forecast then.

PS. Don't diss Grafham's Retro charm!
PPS. You guys with RS100s deserve a prize for being keen enough to have your boats on site already (at least thats what they looked like from a driv-by inspection)

Crosby lake at the start of the Mersey had a thin skin of ice last weekend, But we've had minus 17 for a few nights so it should be frozen still.... weather forecasts hoping we should be liquid for the Hangover Handicap on 2nd Jan 2011.  All welcome to come and race
Yes the Mersey could freeze, the outer docks at the Liverpool Boat show location have frozen and thats sea water !!!
Better a crap day in Abersoch than any day at work.

Draycote was pretty much frozen up earlier this week I think. The -13 we saw as we drove past this morning wont be helping thaw too much too quickly! I'll check it out tomorrow but I doubt the club pursuit will be sailed, although the bar is opening at 11am, so happy days!
