Done a bit more on the pimptastic trapeze discs today.
They dont look as good as i was hoping as yet. Annoyingly the resin had loads of tiny bubbles in it and so when I tried to tcut the top surface it just filled in all the bubbles  Pinch

Im going to clean all the t cut out of the bubbles and then put some 2 pot perfection over the top of it all. Hopefully it should give a lot better finish and make the bubbles less noticable. But we shall see....

And yes before anyone says it i know theres no hole in the middle of each one. That will come next

They look a lot better than the ready-made ones I bought for mine. Have you vacuum-bagged them?

No I didn't use anything at all technical like that at all Jamie! I bought a carbon compass bracket off ebay ages ago, and when it arrived it was a piece of crap. It was a complete waste of money so I just put it in the garage and left it. Then I had the trapeze disc idea.
The bracket was only about 1.5mm thick (made from a sandwich of twill weave carbon, glass cloth and then another layer of twill carbon), so I cut out 4 discs the same size and then roughed up the worst side of each one.
I then mixed up some west system epoxy and glued them together. Now for this bit I had no special tools. I found a sheet of clear acrylic which was pretty smooth and shiny to use to get the flat underside finish. And because my mate has my release wax I had to improvise with some turtle wax car polish.
I spread some epoxy on the acrylic and placed 2 of the discs 'good-side down' on top, trying to smooth it out and make sure I had as few bubbles as possible underneath (queue the clear plastic to see the underside).
Then I spread some more epoxy over the top of the 2 discs and placed the other 2 on top so that the roughed sides matched up.
Then to finish it I poured the remaining epoxy over the top and spread it around a bit so it was about 2mm thick, and because of the nature of the liquid epoxy, there was a meniscus around the edge of each disc which gave the nice rounded edge.
I then just let it settle itself down and rested it between the gap in the workmate with an electric fan heater underneath on full chat to speed up the curing process (it was pretty cold in the garage today).
After about an hour they were done. I just peeled the epoxy 'splatter' off the acrylic - it all dribbled together so the discs were joined - and then trimmed off the excess from around the edge and gave the top a quick sand over with some 600 and then 1200 wet n dry.

And voila, 2 carbon trapeze discs.

Ive cleaned the t cut out now aswell so they look better than in that photo.

do remember that for small items, a kitchen oven on low is actually quite a good curing oven- though try to avoid contamination. Don't go above 80°C- at 80, I'd reckon standard West should be done (as in fully done, not just hard) in about a couple of hours. This is though somewhat guess work, as I've not got time or inclination to actually investigate it in the lab properly  LOL
