Sailing the Greek Islands

   Hello all, 

We are a company of 6 people looking to charter a yacht in order to
sail the Greek islands. I wonder if anyone has any useful tips
concerning the itinerary or any advice about the boat. I searched
through many yacht charter companies which offer more or less the same
services. I lean towards booking from Eolia Yacht Club who seems to be very friendly and experienced. Does anyone have experience with this company in the past?

We have 1 person (out of the 6) who has a sailing license. Do you believe the Greek Sea is ok to go for bareboat charter or should we hire a crew?

	Hi Tunik, We've been on flotilla holidays in Greece for the past two years and wondered if we could bareboat next time. Your question "Do you believe the Greek Sea is ok to go for bareboat charter" is a bit vague as there isn't one Greek Sea but plenty. In my limited experience, I found that the Ionian Sea is excellent for beginners as most passages are quite short, with good bays to moor for a swim or for the night. Typically, it's not too windy in the summer. I would think it is possible to bareboat with six people, providing: - the skipper is experienced and organised - the crew can work with the skipper effectively - you don't go during July / August unless you stay well away from the tourist spots In addition, some charter companies will ask members of the crew for certificates such as Competent Crew. Finally, some flotilla holidays will offer the possibility to charter a bareboat and you can tag along their flotilla. During both holidays we had in Greece (both with Seafarer), there were yachts following the flotilla when they wanted. They were getting help to moor and leave harbours, they were given local info (where to eat, where you get showers, supermarket, etc.) but they were free to skip a leg if they felt like it. In conclusion, if your skipper is experienced, if your crew is ready to learn a lot and if you're not going when it's too busy, go for it!

	hi i have hired a boat in geece for a week in the past with my school and it was great fun however we used these people http://www.nisosyachtcharter.com/ very friendly/kind reliable and make you do the absolute minimal paper work somethink to do with the engine failed when we were 60 nm from there base so we phoned them up and they were there the next morning working away and then straight off to hq in there amazing rib the boat was left in a brand new state with everythink ready to go ; beds made everywere was shiny and checked over by there cleaners and mechanics i would seriously consider chartering with nisos if i were you also have a look on there website it tells you bare needed 'qualifications' to hire for bareboat or skippered hope this helped
