They are not 'Just' Wood Grumpf, i am sure is just a cosmetic thing (I.e. there is some kind of Foam sandwich construction)  You can buy glass contenders Chris Somner makes them here in the UK If i remember correctly

My all glass Harpprecht Contender is for sale if anyone is interested. Only 2 years old - will advertise on Y&Y soon.

All of the Bonezzi sell very quickly and in the UK they are rarely advertised. The last one ended up being to sold to an Australian and exported there.

Should have said mine is a foan sandwich boat. Not epoxy as the glass rules do not allow for this when building a glass boat. For some reason you can buiild a wooden boat using epoxy.

Thing is, turns out we're becoming a bit of a Contender club, there are five of them racing now and two of them placed well in that Man of Kent.

It was on my should I shouldn;t I list at the time I bought the Blaze and I narrowly missed one down Bognor way.

But seriously, Lottery money dinghy, back on topic, I'd expect something better than wood, lighter stiffer stronger, you know all those unfashionable things folk want in the real world, not least to be able to manhandle the frikking thing, they're not small boats (which is a good thing).

So, with my 30 mil, what's the lightest stiffest Contender on offer?

Grumpf, You wouldn't like them becuase they are made of wood (I think???)  But boy oh boy, it would change your perception of a wooden ship!!  They have to be one of the sweatest rides out there!  If they were not so shocking in the light stuff, i would love a decent contender. In a decent wind they are just awesome....well it was the one time i sailed one is some breeze!

and you can see plenty at the front of the fleet at any time.  Though in your case grumpf you'd have to wait for them to come ashore....

Try the Contender webpages, as far as getting one there was one for sail in the international section, about €8k if memory serves correct.  Beware though, seeing one may alter your perception permanently and cause all others to pale by comparison..... Andrea Bonnezzi is the nice man who's palms you musst grease to gain entry into the exclusive club, not just a brilliant builder but also multiple world champ, so he has "the knowledge" in more ways than one !

So, where and how do you 'get' a Bonnezzi Contender?

Who do you have to see, who's palm pockets the wedge?

And where could you see it in the flesh first?
