I know that this is possible but has anybody done it? I have a carbon mast that I'd like to paint white but I'm not sure of the procedure - any pointers?

Hang mast up in suitable spot, get brush, apply paint.
We have a open area under our clubhouse which is perfect for mast painting. When feeling really lazy I've used an aerosol of car paint, but it isn't very good at abrasion and tends to fall off if halyards or whatever are contacting it. Use wire wool or very fine wet and dry to give a bit of surface prep so there's a bit of key for the paint and to remove any loose varnish. |

To my mind two pot polyurethane is definitely the best option.

I have used International Toplac for this, origionally for want of anything else but 4 years later all is still well. You can get it in half tins as well. At least paint is opaque and as such keeps all uv light off the spar.Edited by Paramedic - 29 Sep 10 at 7:34am |

Thanks guys. Plain old gloss or worth paying a bit more and going for a matt finish?
