An update…Fed Week.

Friday was forecast a F4 all day building to 6 in the evening.

The tide was really strong (springs) and the skies were getting a bit angry.

I clocked 15.29knots on the way out to the start line, but never managed to beat it on the race course.

As the wind built to a serious level it was all about boat handling, and not capsizing.

There were so many boats to avoid; it was exhilarating with the kite up.

The gybe mark (sandy) was situated directly under the gaze of the many spectators on the HISC balcony, and screaming towards it with the kite up, I was worried I might tip it in (big style) in front of everyone….in the channel, but the gybe was perfect and then off to the leeward mark at break neck speed (14knots)

I had Andrew Streeter and Agustin in the D-Ones and Simon Childs in the RS100 a fair way behind, but I think they all tipped it in, so I was kind of on my own, until Agustine caught me up again....but made a further 3 swims.

Just when we were heading for the last beat, a huge squall came through and the rain was blinding….I removed my sunglasses!

It was a fantastic week, and very interesting to gauge the speed between the 100’s.....i think the venue / tidal harbour has skewed the figures slightly.

I think we are all still learning new things….and everyone really enjoyed sailing together.

A great week for hiking asymetric boats!

P.S. I should mention that Federation Week is an absolutely brilliant week at a fantastic venue, and I would like to say "thank you" to all the volunteers (100's of them ) that gave up their time to make it such a great event.

Whoops!  We have been quiet here.  What with moving house, washing my hair and going to the Bay of Pigs regatta I have neglected to update the D-One news for some weeks.
The weekend was the final event in the Volvo D-One championships in Italy.  Tim had a stonking Saturday with a 2nd and  a 4th but lost his way a little on the Sunday in tricky winds and complex Med wave formations.  Having said that all had a great time and Augustine showed his prowess in the tricky conditions with winds up to 20 Knots - not bad for a 72 Kilos sailor.

Tim, speed is like sex. You get it, but even if it's good, you don't brag about it Wink...

P.S. My 59er reached 18.5 knots (GPS) in a 4 over a half mile... and we're still tuning the boat...
Pass the skiff, man!

A few years back my Fireball was clocked at 85mph - at least that's what the policeman said!
