How many boats do they usually get out Salty? Its a long way to travel even for us. Also what type of courses do they run?

I'd deliberately not travel to an event if i found out it was Windward/ leeward...but then i sail a boat without an asymmetric than can sail around the cans!

I would be surprised if this one didn`t have wind / leeward courses in it.because of on shore & off shore breezes. GRF would possibly know, it is his neck of the woods.

Whilst they're round-the-cans, they're bit different to your average club racing. I rember going to the Tiger a few years back and being somewhat overawed/scared by the start line- didn't help that we had a late-arriving 18ftr desperately trying to get below the line right where we were.
And that's somewhat the point of these events- it may be handicap and handicap pursuit racing, but it is handicap racing on a big scale against generally high-class sailors and a wider mix of classes than you find at your average club.
The Tiger's an interesting mix- the big race on the Sunday is a huge RTC lap round the Lake, but the Saturday races are on a box course- with the aim being to have "true" reaches at the top and bottom, keeping the Windward and Leeward legs somewhat seperate- needed when you've got up to 250 boats.

Grimwith usually do a wind leeward event in june
Bala long distance race should be wind leeward do to the shape of the sailing area early july
Lord birkett early july due to the shape of the water & landscape
they are the only races that I know are advertised or very likily to be w/l races.
Most of the big events like the tiger have to be RTC`s events to appeal to enough sailors to make it worthwhile holding them in the first place.
Also remember that on the forum the Assy boat is sailed by quite a high percentage of posters but in the real world the Assy sailor is a very much smaller percentage of regular sailors
I also totally agree with alstorer`s post.Good points well made..

Quite sad to see Grafham can the Slalom event, yet again due to lack of numbers. Although it was blowing old-boots last year, the year before it was a really good weekend's racing, and there aren't many other options for us to sail the 12 between now and January (when it's too blood cold anyway).

Jimbo if i remember back to my brief spell in a 200 i seem to recall the Stevie Nick split the fleets into Single/Double handers & Assy and foilers. The Foilers and assy kite boats sail W/L
To be honest you are not disadvantage with your kite at any of the Winter handicap events, the courses are generally big enough for you to open you legs. You should really do at least the Tiger this year mate, you are more then welcome to tag along with Myself, Charlie, Olly and etc. Last year was great Mottayotty and the other Phantom boys joined us for a meal in the evening with some of the Moth lads, great PY banter.

You can still come and race there.
We're hoping to fit some racing in over the cold spell.
