Would have thought that those fleets that choose to do 4 races back to back will soon find they've only got the 10% sailing. The other 90% will have voted with their feet. |

Isn't the Championship more about the 90% of the fleet who don't have a realistic chance of winning than the 10% who do? |

People sail for fun, mainly. Often, the Nationals is the one event some people will travel to, unless there's also a local-ish TT event for their class. The event should be structured so that those guys can have fun AS WELL as creating high quality racing for the "RAAARGH, I AM MAN, HEAR ME ROAR" hardcore crew. |

The longest time we've been afloat from shore to races and back to shore is seven hours at Weymouth with three good length races back to back. Lots of dropping into the water and hanging onto the side of the boat to "cool off" between races!

Depends on the class. 4 races back to back might be ok for those classes that attract a younger/fitter crowd. As someone who's squad days are a couple of decades ago I'd go out of my way to avoid that type of environment. Horses for courses.

There's a fifth option.. It's STFU and think about what happens if a little bit of your string breaks or you lose a manpon. This is nothing like proper mens sports where you do have to be fit, it's girly sit down in boat stuff, but your frikking boat can break and you may need to fix it.

Can we have a 4th option of stop being a wimp and man up? whats wrong with 4 races a day? unless they are all 4 hours long nothing! If your not fit enough to do four races then your not really going to be in contention anyway are you? no. We used to spend 6/7 hours on the water midd winter training hard and being able to hike till next week if needed to, just man up and stop acting like little girls

B14 champs just gone- we had three days, 3-4-3 races. Target 45 minutes, absolute time limit for leaders of 70 minutes, 20 minute time-out for stragglers (not that that ever came close to being needed). RO got the 45 minutes about right every time. On Saturday we did have to re-start the first race after one lap had been done- the wind swung violently turning the course into a fetch-broad each, which is rubbish for racing, but this did rather lengthen the day a bit. Close enough to the launch area that when we snapped our main halyard in the pre-start of the second attempt at the first race of the Saturday, we were able to get ashore, lash the head of the sail to the top of the mast and get back out for the second race. Despite a pretty lengthy day on the water, restorative pasta on landing helped kickstart the fleet back to life for a pub-crawl round Roker. |

Er apologies about that earlier tirade...
Out on the 'sauce' last night, making up for what should have happened at the weekend with my ex B14 campaigner rep bemoaning the whole lack of 'social scene' sailing appears to have degenerated to (just my sad lot, it's not just sailing, the sailboard scene is just as bereft of the sort of 'merriment' we used to know and love)his opinion there appears to be too much 'money' in sailing and too many 'serious early to bedders chasing it". But no need to be so lairy though, sorry again, even if my club is riddled with laminated copies of a certain photograph, I am taking the stick as only a man can.. accompanied by copious Becks Vier. |

Right. Four races back to back is absurd. More for the convenience of those running the race than those participating. Tail wagging the dog.
