Hello all,

I take care of the internet portal of UKCRA (catamaran.co.uk) and would
welcome any submissions of news, race reports, photographs, links, gossip
etc...

Ok, some of you don't like the Title.

Some individual cat classes are doing really well, they
must be promoting themselves to do that.

I am aiming my criticism at cat sailing as a whole. after
the furore over the Olympic decision, all cat sailors
pulled together under the banner of UKCRA to speak with a
common voice. we started to get F18 and dart youngsters
joining the Dragoon charter program and classes started
to combine at events again and If we ever got olympic
selection back, we could be sure that the best sailors
from all any of our classes would be in a position to
take up the challenge.

So, I guess i am having bit of a dig at UKCRA for not
keeping the pace up and involving the cat classes in an
overall system.

Or maybe it is the cat classes that can't be bothered to
support UKCRA?

Either way, at a time when women's match racing seem to
be needing to press-gang sailors into boats, it would be
a good time to shout about how cool cats are!

We had 450 fans on our Facebook page before the Worlds and now have over 1000 just from that publicity.

The Tornado may look like it is strugelling (you are always going to get less people at events once the Olympians have gone) but across the World it's still as big and there are lots of keen sailors out there. If you look at the number of Worlds entries to the amount of boats out there I think the Tornado did quite well if you compare it to other fleets.

The UK Nationals are happening at the end of September and we have teams from AUS, CZE, GER and GBR coming along. There will also be a press release every night with the latest results.

We are also leading the fight as a class to bring the Multihull back, there will be lots of Tornado sailors in Athens at the ISAF meeting and we have a game plan.

I don't 100% agree with the title of this forum topic but I do agree that there is hardly any action/media being shown by the catamaran classes.

Thoughts are welcome............

Looking forward to the daily reports - can you make sure club@yachtsandyachting.com is on your distribution list?

I would say that yourself and the Tornado class did a bloody good job with the promoting and keeping us up to date.  More so then many other Multihull events this (Northern Hemisphere) season.

BTW, still love sailing on the big T and looking forward to our season kicking off in a few months.

I agree with Paul. We need to promote ourselves better.

From memory there was a report on Day 1 (friday) of the F18 nationals in the saturdays clubs section here. I know Hugh was at a wedding on the Sat after racing so was otherwise occupied and the final write up was on YnY website on Tues...hardly a slow turn about!

Cat sailing is not on the decline unless you look only at the Tornado, which unfortunately is going thru the post olympic slump as others move to F18s. The numbers of F18s at this years nationals was well up on last years.

So as for the title totally misleading...cat sailing is doing well....Could it do better with promoting itself??...OF COURSE, but as others have said with volounteers doing write ups who are there to enjoy the sailing these may be delayed.   hardly think that monohull sailing is on the decline with only 2 write ups from the RS200 and nothing as yet from the RS400s!!
