We have just had 130 cats racing in the venue for the
Olympics that multis have got chucked out of, and there
has not been one decent press release or a fleet photo.
The F18s had a huge fleet at the worlds this year and
similarly offered a really poor PR performance. [The
nationals was rubbish too]

I thought that we had set up a multihull governing body
to promote what goes on and make sure that we get back
into the olympics?

I know that we have just seen the ICCCT going on and
there are rumors that the AC may go to multis, the VX40
stuff is great too, but the one thing that makes a
difference to our sport at grass roots level [Certainly
at Youth level] is the olympic selection and we need it
back!

C'mon cat sailing get your act together

[ In no way is this meant as criticism of what guys like
Jon Worthington, Nick Dewhurst, Nick Henson are
doing/have done - just that we need more!]

Very harsh and the topic title is a load of
bull****. Volunteers normally post the press
releases and they also have to sail and enjoy
themselves. I can't see how they'd influence
an Olympic selection through their postings?

The darts did have 130 plus boats last week.
Cat sailing is awesome fun and well
supported.
However the olympics don't want us. Get
over it and move on. It's political. Mere
mortals will never get a say.

You may note that have been through the
angry stage. Then disappointed, now just
apathy. The guys that won the dart worlds
should have represented teM gb. I'm gutted
for them

From memory there was a report on Day 1 (friday) of the F18 nationals in the saturdays clubs section here. I know Hugh was at a wedding on the Sat after racing so was otherwise occupied and the final write up was on YnY website on Tues...hardly a slow turn about!

Cat sailing is not on the decline unless you look only at the Tornado, which unfortunately is going thru the post olympic slump as others move to F18s. The numbers of F18s at this years nationals was well up on last years.

So as for the title totally misleading...cat sailing is doing well....Could it do better with promoting itself??...OF COURSE, but as others have said with volounteers doing write ups who are there to enjoy the sailing these may be delayed.   hardly think that monohull sailing is on the decline with only 2 write ups from the RS200 and nothing as yet from the RS400s!!

I agree with Paul. We need to promote ourselves better.

Did anyone see all of the work I did at the Tornado Worlds over 10 days? Video and photos and reports to the world and the press all the time.

Check out all of the stuff on the ITA website and YouTube channel

http://www.tornado-class.org/events/worlds.htm
http://www.tornado-class.tv

We had 450 fans on our Facebook page before the Worlds and now have over 1000 just from that publicity.

The Tornado may look like it is strugelling (you are always going to get less people at events once the Olympians have gone) but across the World it's still as big and there are lots of keen sailors out there. If you look at the number of Worlds entries to the amount of boats out there I think the Tornado did quite well if you compare it to other fleets.

The UK Nationals are happening at the end of September and we have teams from AUS, CZE, GER and GBR coming along. There will also be a press release every night with the latest results.

We are also leading the fight as a class to bring the Multihull back, there will be lots of Tornado sailors in Athens at the ISAF meeting and we have a game plan.

I don't 100% agree with the title of this forum topic but I do agree that there is hardly any action/media being shown by the catamaran classes.

Thoughts are welcome............

I would say that yourself and the Tornado class did a bloody good job with the promoting and keeping us up to date.  More so then many other Multihull events this (Northern Hemisphere) season.

BTW, still love sailing on the big T and looking forward to our season kicking off in a few months.
