![]() as for disabled sailing, I am SI at Grafham Water Sailability where I see people overcome all sorts of obstacles to get themselves out on the water. No whingeing, they put part-timers like me to shame... ![]() |

there is a chap at grafham who sails a laser with one hand. He has a rubber 'cleat' which helps him hold the mainsheet in the V of his forearm and bicep, he has modified tiller extension and on his day he sails really well. don't let disability put you off. I had a crew for my 49er who was in a wheel chair at 17 with scoliosis. after his operations and some effort rebuilding his body and mind he became a great crew and LOVED the freedom of being able to do sport. |

Get a crew! or as the Aussies say 'forward hand' Get well soon! Would a scuba diver's dry glove help? Try Andark? |

Nessa has loads of boats to choose from. I agree try a Laser or similar to start off with, even a Pico to get used to first and work your way up so to speak.

Nessa, We have a solo sailor at SW and one day he woke up and his left arm had stopped working. Over time of not being used it has withered somewhat so is virtually useless. Now I had some serious tussles with him when he had two arms so I thought I would be able to beat him now. Not so he is just as quick. Before you jump in the contender maybe you need to start on something you dont have to hook on. I know hasnt your better half got a boat in the Dinghy park, a Bonio or something. Have fun Rog

so, ho do I sail with only one functional hand, the other non functional one being allowed to get neither hot nor wet...
ideally in a contender I know it has been done, but I don't know how! |
