the D-One compared to the 100,

that is quite significant, in trapeze terms its like comparing the righting moment of a 6fter with someone 5ft2.5

I recently purchased the other UK ex demo boat and had similar problems recovering the kite.  The reason became clear during a gybe when the downhaul wrapped around the pole!  It then dawned on me that I was basically sailing a 'new' boat which hadn't been set up to individual needs - the one you sailed may well be the same.

With regard to catching your feet on the chute - I did exactly the same first time out and was very concious of it being there which I think was due to being a tad hesitant getting on to the wing.  Now I don't notice it at all so I guess I'm just stepping straight out on to the wing.

Here's the changes I've made:

1) Shorten genny halyard by 450mm.

2) Add an extra packing wedge under the mainsheet jammer (probably because I'm sailing with wide wings)

3) Replace kicker and downhaul control lines - originals just too short.

4) Shorten the traveller control lines.

yep shortening the halyard is a grand job, works a treat.

The other thing that I really noticed in the D1 compared with the 100 is with the increased freeboard and wings I really felt like I was sitting much higher off the water. It was quite an odd feeling initially as I am so familiar with the 100 now.

In terms of Grahams point about the mainsheet I have never had any problems with the rear mainsheet on the 100 so didnt feel any benefit with the D1 set up. both work really well.

I think the mods suggested by the other Keith are all good mods that would address the minor issues I have with my first sail in it.

Cheers,

Keith

Hi Keith,

Glad you enjoyed your outing.

I hope you moved the wings to the outer setting to gain the benefit of extra leverage....we had some really light people at the regattas and they can keep up with the heavier crews upwind, so it really works.

Just to let you all know that a few of the D-One fleet are planning to compete at Chichester Harbour Federation Week.  Come and say hello if you are there (there may even be some funds left in the beer pot, on second thoughts, knowing the D-One lot there may not be ).  This should be an excellent test of the accuracy of the D-One manufacturer's recomended PY.

HISC have kindly agreed that we can offer test sails during the week.  Let me know if you would like to try the D-One during the course of the week and I will make the necessary arrangements.  Competitors, HISC members and visitors are all welcome. My Email is rodney@suntouched.co.uk or mobile is 07734 251033.

Currently racing with 5 other D-Ones at Hayling Island SC Federation Week.

Racing has been fantastic, and finally getting a chance to race properly against UK D-Ones and also RS100's.

I have been having fantastic racing with local sailor Nick Peters in the RS100 but the others are quite a few minutes behind on the water.

I wish we could so windward / leeward courses!!!

This RTC stuff is a killer....go wrong in the tide and you can lose 2-3 minutes lead.
