That looks like a bike wheel quick release level on the boom gooseneck. What a neat idea.....

I have yet to see the one at my club sailing yet but we have all been admiring the quality of workmanship. Even the mast with a build in sail feeder moulded into the mast is lovely. Some really nice attention to detail.

Cheers,

Keith,

I managed to get a go of the D-1 after racing last night and it
Was really interesting jumping straight out of the 100 into it.
First impression was simply the size. Its a big boat and with
A lot of freeboard plus wings you sit a along way off the water
Compared with the 100. There is no doubt its a good bit
Quicker upwind than my 8.4 rig 100. The track took
A bit of getting used to but worked well enough. The main
Is a incredibly powerful but I felt confident with the
Feeling of huge leverage hiking off the wings.
Downwind was a different story and maybe it was just that boat but
I feel the 100 was easier to hoist and drop and no obvious
Difference in speed but it was all very subjective I suppose.
I found the drop not quite as easy as I struggled to collect
The slack in the downhaul before tripping the uphaul cleat as
I was pulling the from same block but just the other side.
On the 100 the downhaul is from the back end of the chute and
You can gather then trip the uphaul. The other thing that
Little annoying thing was chute running all the way back on the
Port side. I kept catching my feet on it but maybe that's just the
Rigging on that particular boat.
Chatting in the bar afterwards the boat really did divide
Opinion on looks but I must admit it has eally grown on me.
However for my sub 70kg weight I feel I have the right boat but I was really
Quite impressed with the D1 and I can see why people are
Getting excited about it. The build quality is absolutely superb.
The great thing about the club race last night was we finally had
The 100, Vareo and D1 all on the water together.
Cheers,
Keith

That's an interesting comparison.

There must be other advantages? No rear sheeting for example.

Such a shame it's got a dagger and fixed rudder - bloody lake sailing
designers..
