I have upgraded mine by using a standard Chinook double pulley through
the cunningham cringle and using a double block to replace the single
block that the kicker uses.

Cunningham control then goes from the deck organiser round this pulley
eye, down to the double block, up the other side, through the pulley eye
and back to the organiser.

I find this provides more than enough purchase, eliminates the bottoming
out problem of the original arrangement and means you dont have to
untie the downhaul everytime, which is a pain. (you can snap the line in
and out of the Chinook pulley).

Bimble information would be good. Hadn't seen that type of block before, not having been windsurfing since .... too long!

Martin,

My Vortex was often referred to as 'the boat that once resembled a
Vortex' !!

Only problem with the 100 is that its so bloody good there is not much
that you can actually improve !!

The only bimble I really need is a rudder lift mechanism to match the
rudder pull down - lots of seaweed where we sail and its a total speed
killer if you catch a big bit and cant shake it off.

Went over to Torquay this pm to see the moths - now that is bimbling
heaven !! Some great sailing going on for the lighter guys.

Will post some pics on rs100.com when I get a chance.

Hi Dave,

Yes, those are the ones on my boat. Pretty sure they are tied on but will
check tomorrow evening.

Have you got these on your boat ?

Personally I like the Ronstan Orbit Ratchet so might swap over with the ones
on my Vortex at some point.

presumably you have to cut and re-splice your continuous line to do this and
thread it through the new double block at the bottom? Can't you just tie off
the existing cunningham single block on the boom or kicker fitting and
achieve the same without cutting and having to re-splice?

A couple of weeks ago I posted a query about vast amounts of water coming in through the slot gasket when reaching with the kite up. Some of you posted answers, thankyou. I now have the answer which may prevent others having the same problem:- make sure you retract the centreboard FULLY when leaving the boat on the trolley i.e. after sailing, failure to do so distorts the slot gasket leaving a gaping slit even when the board is fully down next time you sail, its not permanent and retracting the board allows the mylar to recover to its flat condition, that problem for me no longer exists, well until I forget to pull the C/B up again  doh!

Hi Simon yes you can and that is what I did when I first tried it out, I had
a spare double block so put that on but you then need a twisted shackle
so actually using the existing block is probably better anyway. I have
actually rethreaded / replaced my control lines but you can easily unpick
the splice and redo rather than cutting. The Chinook block doesn't have
ball races and also probably insn't intended to deal with this sort of
loading (windsurfer outhaul is very lightly loaded) so I am toying with
using micro ball bearing blocks either side of the cringle with a dyneema
shackle to join them - you need to be able to easily tie and untie this to
remove the sail so it needs to be a loop and stopper knot arrangement.

Poke a 2mm drill bit ot a paper clip or something up from underneath, you have to lie under in or kneel, but you don't need to remove the organiser!

You do if there are pebbles in it, or next time you change the mast it
doesn't seat properly and it was that blocked poking from both ends took
quite a while.




So now whilst I'm on, anyone else had problems on a tight reach?

Not with the kite, just the one sail, an 8.4.

It might be wave related and or wind under the wing, or the rig racked back to
far,(set on 6th hole ) or just plain old me failing to hike out hard enough at
this stage(other problem being windward capsize or being knocked in by the wave),
but I'd be interested to hear any other experiences of silly capsizes from
a beam reach position. (A new one on me, I generally only go in on gybes and it
happened twice in not really that windy conditions (14-16kts))

I need to spend more time out in wind over a four and not too much of it spent
trying to get back into the bloody thing..
