"Wicked" will be performing at the 2010 Salcombe Week, so that will give a good indication of how she can perform against the best of the fleet.

If you want to see some woodwork that looks even more sexy then have a gander at the photos of a New Zealand chap who wanted a non-clinker version of the same design...

I knew the helm was just a useless team member, and these figures just prove it!

:-))

Unfortunately I meant crew as in both forward hand and helm :-)

Funny, those strip plank Cedar boats with the stripe effects really don't do anything for me at all, especially the ones where they'd done elaborate patterns with wood selection.

eer I think that is most definately a NO !  (it is a lot more than just hull !)

But if you have a liberal 14' rule (etc etc) you end up with a fairly standard NS type shape.  Design convergence .... you might also understand why we wanted a bit more volume now over the NS .... and compensated by lengthening the hull by 20cm as we are not tied to particular NS rules.

But maybe you could even say the de-planked Merlin ends up like an MG14 without the trapeze or asymetric ...     Does look very pretty though, not sure the ICON pricing target would handle the number of hours required  !

that wouldn't be such a bad thing, but 5 stone lighter and a fraction of
the price (and without all the
string!) :-)

If I made a million (unlikely) I would have somone build a clinker merlin in exposed black carbon with cedar decks. Just think of the carbon weave crossing the stepped planks and the strip decking let into the gunwales, jagged. I have no idea what that is called. All high gloss with red string.

Unfortunately, that's not possible, carbon is not allowed in the hull shell of a merlin.

You are allowed to build one from foam/grp planks, one is on its way at the moment, but I'm not sure it counts as an amateur build when it's built by a Turner.

Let's hope the market is big enough for the icon, it's about time the no-kite sailors had an alternative to the N12 and the Enterprise.
