Had a top tip from a top tipster (who really should know
what he's on about) on Friday that I should be sailing our 4K with lots of windward heel. Apart from scaring the c*!p out of the Mrs, what's the logic behind sailing with windward heel? |

Did I see this on one of the Rooster vids? It's supposed to give extra lift towards windward by effecting the hull shape in the water or something like that. no doubt someone will explain it better. In the vid they demonstarte in a Laser...... ......I try it in the light stuff (F2s) but as yet I haven't found it to work (inreased drag??) dependant on hull shape?. Is it one of those myths?? If you sail heeled to windward, when a gust hits you just go upright, rather than heeled. Can't say I ever do on a beat - for a start, windward heel should make the boat bear away?
I'm sure Steve Cockeral had something to say about this a few years ago, Laser sailing, but it has gone from my mind. I guess if the boat is naturally trying to head up all the time, heeling to windward would help, rather than rudder movements. Edited by Rupert |
