This morning, arrived an envelope containing a plastic bag filled with a
drill bit, three rivets and two bits of plastic, claiming to be a Mast retrofit
for the RS100.

Accompanied by unintelligible instructions presumably aimed at the IKEA
flatpack competent folk of this world which I fear I aint..

So what should I do?

i) Ignore it and hope whatever it is isn't fatal..

ii) Keep it in desk drawer promising oneself to really try and work it out
someday..

iii) Bin it.

iv) Sell the boat just in case it's something serious..

v. Take it to the next/first RS100 open meeting and smile at someone until they do the mod for you.

However this technique works best if you are young, female and pretty, so if you fail on all three you may have to resort to buying drinks, which is very nearly as effective.

Thank you Jim - good idea..

I may even despatch said craft, kit and one of the daughters of darkness so
instructed..

Having said that, the drink buying route is probably cheaper..

What is it for Grumpf??? I'm sure you have a rivet gun, but what about those people who don't??  I'd bin it pal, if it were that important it would have been a recall!!

Rivet Gun? Moi?

Rivet guns are for Northerners aren't they?

Why would I ever want a rivet gun?

I'm far to Sophisticated a Southerner to own anything as blue collar as a
rivet gun - they make your hands dirty for a start, I've seen people under
cars with them haven't I ?

I don't know what it's for, it's blathering on about 'joiner sleeves' this is
crew stuff, this singlehanded sailing's not all it's cracked up to be, I had to
lift the boat off its trailer the other day on my own ffs..

Rivet Gun

Whatever next.

Hmm I think what I'd rather have received in the mail would be whatever do
dah prevents the mast jamming in the spreaders, lost a nice day today
because of it, not sure if its caused by too slack spreaders or too taught but
either way it was so bad the sail wouldn't tack.

At first i just assumed it was me and the sail being too big for the rising
breeze, but once ashore and still not being able to get the boom centred in
the boat, the problem was made clear..

Very annoying.
