Apparently 21 twin 150hp RIBs were delivered to the Academy
yesterday. It's all starting to happen! Edited by ellistine |

......really? Why, are they ones they have falling apart (I suppose they do get a lot of use)? Unless it's just a planned upgrade that will happen every few years and all the old ones are to be sold off.

When I was there back in Feb the ribs there looked pretty much new. I would guess this will be part of the olympic build up but it does seem a little premature. Although they do have a number of large events coming up which will be used a test beds for the olympics. |

I think they are all part of the Olympic delivery. I saw the tender
for supply go out a little while ago. I agree though, it all does seem a little premature. Edited by ellistine |

I'm more amazed that a coaching rib needs 300hp! How big
are these things |

I don't think they're Team GBR ribs. I think they're for the officials. |

Had a quick gander tonight. They're all big jobs with roofs. They nearly all have alinghi/Hublot/Wisekey on them. Ex AC? |

Given those "Alinghi" logos, I suspect you'd find that they got them at a very good price from the recent Alinghi/ACM closing-down sales. All the equipment to run one of the world's major regattas doesn't come up for sale every day. Edited by Stefan Lloyd |
