The 100 should be on the pace of a 400 downwind as the vareo is pretty darn close up to a certain wind speed. Good luck to all you 100 sailors cant wait to see one to race against !!!!!!!! |

No question, 100 is almost always faster than a 400 downwind: The 400 however can carry the kite higher, and is obviously much quicker upwind. Managed to win an open pursuit bank holiday monday - 8-9 knots easing to 4-5 knots and nothing for the last 5 mins, In these conditions 200s/400s/Merlins are no problem - the FF's are though - too much w/l length! Roll on some class racing! Nick. |

What rig and handicap were you using Nick? Were the other
boats using the standard PY's? |

I was on 10.2, sailing off 1000 - which is our recommended 1005, but adjusted for the Hayling tide factor: So at HISC the FFs stay on standard 1025. Slower boats are progressively advantaged - eg a 200 goes to 1080ish, and a Solo to over 1200! Faster boats are progressively disadvantaged - eg a 700 and MPS at 815 and 800 at 771. A Moth is 653! then we make a few tweaks for bandits - eg Merlin down to 990 and 14 720 ish - although in our pursuits I still start with the Merlins due to quirk of the calcs, Over the course of a season this system works well, although with the high proportion of light winds, the fast boats have been nailed. Merlins, FFs and 200s are probably the consistent performers across the windrange, as you might expect, but usually beaten in our pursuits (we have 6 or 7 a year) by a "specialist" performer. Nick.

there was an 8.4 on demo at our club on sunday - winds ranging from 0 to 15 knots as it built from F0 to F4+ through the afternoon. Very pretty .... almost tempted to return to hiking..... ... but my single handed V3000 was faster, especially down wind (though it didn't point as well). Probably not surprising as I have the same sized kite but about 11sqm of upwind sail and a trapeze to balance it against. Currently sailing off 1007, though it should perhaps be 980 something in a decent F3/4. BUT .... there is no way I can do more than follow our local RS400 downwind. how do you do it Nick? ("our" RS400 is sailed by a couple of ex laser champs admittedly). Edited by NickA |

All that work just to sell the boat....gutted It's interesting how much input was given to the boat from all corners, must have been like walking a tightrope. I lost interest when the 2 rigs discussion happened. Funnily enough on my shopping list it was a singlehanded rs400, not a 200, I reckon there were loads of sailors scribbling designs down for years, when the Blaze said no to a kite! Very interesting read.....sounds like you need to be made an honorary 100 club member at the very least, until you get another one. Timg |

Well let me also add my heartfelt thanks to that, right back to the first PM telling me to wait rather than go all Frankenblaze, nice story.. Can't help thinking they should have given you one, (a boat) a different Industry I guess. |
