We managed to have the first RS100 race at an RS open meeting this
weekend at Lymington. Finally gave me a chance to get out of the river in
more than 3 knots of wind. I could only race yesterday, but three windward
leeward courses starting with the 700's.

First time I have sailed the production boat in any breeze and it was great.
Took me until race 3 to get the rig looking right, then great upwind. The
boat is actually more forgiving than you may think, and if you carry a bit of
weight you can even dry capsize with the kite up! .......twice if you try hard
enough....

You could be right James although I think its more to do
with the fact that the performance dips when there is more
sail up than my weight can handle... but I would undoubtedly have done better had I been feeling a bit
fitter.

And either way handicap racing is about averages... for it
to be right I have to have some big loses to go with the
good wins for it to wind up in the right place.

Cheers

well after boasting about how well I had done on the Wednesday I came dead last on Saturday. There was a bit
more wind and i wasn't feeling 100% so struggled to keep it
flat up-wind and then couldn't hold the kite on the
reaches...

O well

We're going to be holding an unofficial
get together next Saturday (15th) at Parkstone Yacht Club.
All are welcome to come along. General plan is to arrive
mid morning, rig and chat, go for a quick sail, have some
lunch and then go back out again for two back to back club
races. There’s a £7.50 fee the club charges I’m afraid for
day visitors. Let me know if you would like to come by
commenting to this post or PM'ing me. Phil

Isn't it true that Olympic selection is not usually good for any class?
The Olympic association usually get in the way and class associations lose
control. How many new finns are there each year?

There could be an argument for an asymmetric SH, but why not the RS700
or MPS. They are meant to be the best sailors after all.

the end as it tends to in the evening… which was handy as
I was hiking flat out for much of it and as my strength
faded, so did the wind.

I suspect it will be a different story however when the
winds up!

What Ian didn't tell you is that the next boat was the alleged bandit-59er, using the trapeze but still on 908 (was on 920 without wire). The first 'normal' boat (an RS600) was almost 7 minutes down on corrected time, and virtually dead heat with the 100 on the water.

That said, Ian was at full stretch on the final kite reach/run to the line while the 59er crew was stood by the mast. Did someone say overcanvassed?

Regards, the RO.

the first time ever.

The small one Graham, didn't even bother buying the big
one...

The thing I learnt most last night was that I had to hike
hard and get some speed on before trying to point, then
once the foils had a hold I could sheet in another 6
inchs and hike even harder. When I finally couldn't take
any more I would ease the sail and have a rest until the
foils started to loose grip and then repeat the process
all over again. It was real easy to sheet in, feel as
though everything was set right but find myself slipping
side ways.
