Hi James, It was our turn today to have the crap breeze, contrary to the forecast ! Yesterday was actually a sea breeze but only wind on the estuary, the sea was a total glass out. Opposite way around today - ghosted around in 2- 3 knots and performance wasn't quite so impressive, primarily because couldn't get the kite to fly - would have been quicker one-sailing. Sods law, just as we packed up a nice 15 knot NE breeze filled in - only 6 hours later than forecast ! Might sail at Paignton on Wednesday evening (broke mast on 49er last week so that boat is temporarily grounded !) - easterly forecast so could be some good waves to try it out in. |

Well I had more breeze with maybe 7 to 10 in both races. Was late for
first start (my fault) and was about 5 mins behind. Managed to easily catch 200 which was good fun. Second race had an interesting time by staying very similar pace to 200 upwind but pulled out alot downwind. Stayed in touch with a k6 and think I got the 4000 on hcp. First musto was way ahead and tricky to judge how I did until I see results. Interesting upwind I was depowering my wee rig and hiking hard. Love the adjustable toe straps. Chris's point about centreboard up haul chafing on turret is happening to mine also. Overall superb days racing and it's clear to me that most improvement from me will come from upwind practice as downwind is so well sorted. I still can't get over how deep I can go and still carry speed. always need to gybe before everyone else. Cheers, keith |

Do you guys have the stupid little 'C' clips on your boom? I got back to my 300 after not using it since august and they had all turned to dust. Ended up having to cable tie the struts to the boom so they couldn't escape. Replace them with bolts, much less hassle.

Quickly raked it back to just behind mid position just before the start (fantastic adjuster RS) and it all felt so much sweeter, although I then lost my slight shroud tension pre-bend. I have resolved to keep rake the same for now whilst I get to grips with things. My kite sheet take up shockcords have come detached from whatever they were fixed to (presume pole end ?). Shows just how effective they are as without them its virtually impossible to keep sheets from dragging in the briney - ended up sitting on then ! GRF - good news. If my experience is anything to go by you will love it ! |

Chaps, With regards the kite halyard hooking around your spreader ends this is a disaster in a single handed kite boat; especially if it goes around the leeward one which it always does. Solution. 1) Make sure the system is such that the halyard is pulled tight when the kite is in the sock. This means you may want an elastic take up AND make sure the halyard is not over length. 2) Taper your halyard; so there is a thin bit from the head of the kite to the block at the top, you will never need to handle this part. This means there is less windage on the halyard going upwind and so it will be less prone to blowing back & around the spreader end. 3) Check it's not hooked BEFORE you go around the windward mark. |

so in the really light stuff, do you think it is better (faster) to have a bit more kicker on and achieve a really nice sail shape (I was so impressed with the amount of control and the shape you could get) or to leave the kicker looser and live with the various creases in the luff area? I found that with the good sail shape and some kicker on I was able to point really well, but all this was in really light winds |

James, Cleating the halyard is a poor solution regardless of cleat style. If the halyard is fixed then if there is pressure on the halyard all that will happen is the kite head will start to come out of the chute & in waves it would get messy. If the tension is held on the halyard with a bit of elastic then the elastic gives rather than the head of the kite coming out of the chute. |

We've got plenty round here right now, just when I'd rather we hadn't. North Easterlies generally set in this time of year if we get a sunny spell which we have, but very gusty spanky old peeps botties... |
