OK, so here's the deal, went sailing on Sunday, when I was
rolling the sail back up, I noticed a small rip at the end
of the middle batten pocket, about 2-3 inches long.
How do I go about repairing this? My girlfriend recommended
just plain sail tape. Its a laser sail, the original one
that came with the boat 142791

Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Andrew

Andrew,

Tape is OK as a temporary solution but you would probably be better off to see if there's a local sail loft in your area. They would be able to stitch a repair patch in place which should be a much more durable solution. It would be worth getting a quote, but if they suggest that the sail is not worth repairing it might be worth considering a newer 'second-hand' sail or maybe a replica sail (from about £150 for a full-rig),

You could try ironing spinnaker tape (warm iron just enough to melt the glue), I used to use that to good effect on Laser sails.
Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

I have never heard of this, going to try it on the old firefly sails we use at uni for training. By warm, should it be just about ok to touch for a second or too?

When I had an old tatty radial sail I just put repair tape on it and it lasted for a year before I finally bought a 'new' (second hand) sail. Make sure your sail is free of salt etc and bone dry. You can get repair tape of the acutal sail cloth and thats the best stuff.
