As far as the centre mainsheet option goes, the tail end must be dead ended on the transom horse first / or block back to boom end for 2:1 purchase (and free to move across it) and then led along the boom (as per Laser) as in the class rules, and note mainsheet jammer not allowed! Never sailed one with an aft mainsheet so can't comment.

There are a number of different deck/bouyancy layouts which could dictate to an extent where controls can be mounted. The most relevant are jib (rig) tension, which most lead to the aft end of centerplate case using a cascade system. The kicker best led each side to thwart. Mast position and shrouds are not adjustable when racing.

As Rogerd says, there is a wealth of advice on older wooden boat refurbs on the cvrda website and suggestions to epoxy treatment.

Have a look on www.fireflysailing.org.uk as well.

Rupert is your man on Fireflys If he doesnt come along soon try www. cvrda.org. Plenty of advice on decking Fireflies there. As for ply for decks Robins of Bristol are pretty good quality. Dont go for local buildes merchants "marine" ply its crap.

One more question, on fireflys you can put on centre mainsheets. Firstly is there anyone with experience of both types who can comment on the merits relative to the firefly? Also what ropes are split tail mainsheets made of and how are the tails attached into the main bit of rope?

Right guys, we have just been given 2 fireflys for FREE!!!!  Anyway, one of them is in reasonable nick and we are looking to get it on the water asap. The only thing is we need to rig it out in such a way to make it useable. Have any of you guys got any pics of the internal layout of fireflys? I have looked on the class website and downloaded the rules but can't find anything governing what is/is not adjustable, what purchases are allowed etc. Especially have no idea on how the jib pole rigs/ works so help needed there as well please.

The second one is in need of the decks (just the bits you sit on) replacing. They have already been stripped down and just need putting new stuff on. Where can we get decent wood to do this? Also, what epoxy should we use on the bare wood to make sure it is protected for a long long time!!!!

Cheers tom
