i always liked the 600 sail. Plus in how many other classes can you still be competing with a 5 year old sail that gets used every weekend? ive even fallen onto the sail from the wing, and i came off worse. if i'd have done that with a 300 sail id have carried on through it. If second hand boats are costing arond £2000, that means a new sail would cost around a 3rd of the whole boat. (if the price stayed as it is now)

The 600 sail is so expensive (apparently) because the material is no longer produce on the scale that it once was due to it being replaced with more advanced cloths. The current sail is certain to take a lot of punishment!

Isn't the 600 cloth exactly the same as that used for the 400?  they look similar.  I am not sure what cloth is used for the 200 - is it lighter?

I was chatting to Riki from RS at the show and he said
there is only one company that still produces that style of
cloth and it is only used on the 200, 400 and 600s these
days. So if the company decided to stop making it then
those 3 classes would have to adopt a new style of sail,
either with a carbon weave like the 100 and 300 sail or a
kevlar weave like the 700.

I would prefer the carbon, as black looks cooler than gold.

That's exactly the case for the 300. The new sail is cheaper (for the same quality cloth) because the old cloth was only used by Hyde's to make the 300 sail, therefore it cost a lot as they were only buying it in very small quantities.

Isn't the 600 sail fully battened?  Therefore it would almost certainly last longer then the 700 main.  The reason the 300 sail changed, was not a cosmetic one, its because the cost of manufacturing the sail was higher due to the limited supply of one of the cloths.

The 600's are now at a price where a replacement sail is about half the value of the boats, surely a reduction in price would be better if it meant a sail lasted only a year or so less??  Not only that a cosmetic freshen up may result in a re-vigour's interest in the class?  How cool does the 600ff sail look??

Half the value is a little harsh.  Any boats below 2k are normmaly pretty tired and most decent boatd are a new sail more than that.  The second hand values are only about 1k less than a decent 300.

Do you realisticly think that they can get a sail to 500 quid from near 700 - i'm not sure.

The foiling sail looks fantastic I agree but its smaller than the standard 600 sail - i presume it has a flatter cut also due to them sailing at higher apparent wind speeds.

I'm sorry i don't know exactly what you get for your money with 600's i have just seen plenty round the £1500 mark (I didn't mean it to sound like I'm having a pop).

The 300 sail was not much cheaper then £700 fella its now £470 I own the prototype which has been battered for the last 18 months and its still pretty good.

I understand the foiler sail is different, I'm certainly not suggesting you use it, but you could have a standard 600 made to look similar and 'Sex up' the class, no?

If a sail could be made to sex it up a little and you could get it for 500 quid then i;d have one...  like the 300 fleet i'd snap up a carbon boom as well

Would it get people to buy more new boats again though...  The class seems to be attracting lot of new faces which i guess is mostly down to the fact that for 2-2.5k your get a lot of speed for your money and without going down the foiling/ canoe or coloured blooper on teh front you don't really get to go much faster than a 600.  If only a few new boats could be built

My latest pimp - will have pics VERY soon!

I figure since carbon is becoming a bit too common, I've gone in the
complete opposite direction. Something that will offend every fibre of
G.R.F's body!

A beautifully custom made OAK compass bracket. Well, it better be
beautiful as I haven't seen it yet. It's currently being oiled.... whatever that's
for.

It will look completely out of place, no doubt be stupidly heavy but no one
else will have one and it will stick out like fat man in a marathon!
