Mark not sure if they will work like that but they are much neater then the 'classic' Style ones.  Would of been good on the 14 i used to sail.

Mark ive only just worked out that you are Neptune on
here. I never realised.

Anywho yes I have realised that wire to wire with no
cleat is going to be near enough impossible. I going to
give it a go though. Ive got an idea in my head of how I
can do it but whether it will actually work in practice
is another matter.

Lazy hooks = pointless on a cleat-less 600 = PIMP.

And yes I will be coming to Datchet. Ive heard theres
camping on site but I couldnt see anything on the website
about it. Even though it will be cold in April we decided
that staying in a motel, however warm it was, is just too
expensive for us poor students. So if we can camp for a
few pennies then we will. I will try and get the rest of
the 600s from my club to come along aswell. There is 5 of
us now.

the 700. He said the 300 association decided they wanted a
new main and so RS sorted it for them. RS didnt actually
play any part in the idea of the modernised main so if the
600 is going to get the same style, we will have to as an
association organise it. But at the moment the current sail
works perfectly and i dont see any reason to change apart
from looks.

As well as looking better the new 300 main is also something like 25% cheaper than the old one.

I think you were the only one at Grafham directly wire to wire tacking Sam - you seemed pretty good at it too.

The 600 main is really robust though - the 300 and 600 fabrics don't look like the they will last anywhere near as long and unless you are going to change the 600 to a softer sail like a 700 it just a cosmetic change.

Unfortunately although the sail on the 600 is probably the most robust sail out there, it is now making the boat look horribly out dated. I think a redesign would help bring, what is a great boat bang up to date.  In modern materials it would also be one hell of a lot cheaper.

Merlinboy what would you do?

Would you change the shape to make it easier to sail or would you just change the material to make it look more modern and perhaps cheaper to buy like has been done on the 300.

As a reference a 700 mainsail is exactly the same price as a 600 and is near as make no difference the same size so its cosmetic change only then.

But it wouldn't be cheaper.  If you wan't cheaper, what you're really asking for is a sail that will get shagged quicker and then need replacing sooner.  What is cheaper at first becomes a lot more expensive when you have to replace it twice as often.

When it comes to material, no matter what it looks like, in the most part you really do get what you pay for.

My point about the more "modern" 700 mainsail being teh same price as the less moder, but more robust 600 sail.
