Ok, for those that asked, here are some pictures, a diagram and an explanation of my mainsheet takeup. 1: The mainsheet comes from the block and out to a clip on my harness. The clip is tied to my P&B harness through the eyelet holes with a bit of elastic. There is also a loop of elastic tied around the the mainsheet which is the bit i clip onto. This helps the rope run through better, and makes sure the stopper knot doesnt get stuck. 2: The rope then runs from my harness back to a plastic ring which i have lashed to the spring under the block. 3: The rope runs from the ring at the block to a second plastic ring which is attached to the fitting on the rudder post thing. As you can see in the next picture, i have inserted a length of elastic into the end of the rope. This is easy with swiftcord cos it has a sortof empty space inside the braid, so it can be opened up and the elastic just pushes in. I just did a small bit of whipping on the end to stop the elastic pulling out. 4: The end of the elastic then ties to something in the vacinity of the mainsheet block. This keeps all the ropes centered and tidy. At the moment i have tied the elastic back onto the first ring, but i havent found the best point and length of elastic to get the best takeup. How it is at the moment is alright but there is still a bit of slack dangling near the water when im block to block upwind. There is enough taken back into the boat to stop the excess being swept out the back or round the corner of the rack (that normally ends in capsize when you go to let the main out and it is caught on the corner of the rack) I might put a longer bit of elastic on and tie it on further forward so that there is more stretch but with more slack rope being pulled in. I will perfect it soon hopefully. Oh and here is the diagram if the pictures arent that clear. Sorry it is the opposite way round to the pictures! Hope this helps! |

TT - Pimps don't have to come instantly
S.A.L.T.Y. - the the harness permently attached to the mainsheet when sailing? If yes, surely this could have issues in a capsize? |

Slippery jim- it actually works really well.
Doesn't get tangled up at all. I borrowed the idea from the justo fleet. Radixon - it's fine in a capsize. Wherever you end up when the boat goes over, you just unclip it and right the boat as normal. TT - yeah I know there's no need for it. But that's what pimping is isn't it? Good but absolutely pointless and unnecessary. Plus I am the clumsiest tool on the water so when I'm fumbling around and I drop the rope, I don't have to go into the middle of the boat to retrieve it - I just have to reach to the crutch area on my harness ![]() |

Does splicing the outhaul elastic into the outhaul rope around the racks count as pointless and unnecessary? I may have gone to the boat and done that today I also noticed while is was there that my idiot self has cracked the gelcoat on the side deck. I must have fallen on it at the weekend being the tool that i am. Russ - after you suggested i should remove the old RS600 stickers, i had a little think, a bit of a play on Photoshop, and i came up with this idea.... I modified the logo from the Mk2 Escort RS2000. Its a bit retro, but i think it looks pretty cool. And i reckon it will fit good an' proper in the space where the old stickers are. What does everyone think? Good idea? Bad idea? Or have i just got too much time on my hands.
p.s TT i added you on facebook mate. |

How should i do it? the RS bit black and 600 coloured like
the original style? And i was thinking maybe going for blue, so it matches the rest of the blue scheme ive gone for with the boat. I think the pink is possibly a bit 'ginger beer'. |
