Hi guys
Having done a bit of coaching recently and invested in a waterproof camcorder, so far so good as it's been small groups and so crowding around a laptop screen has been fine. However I'm potentially going to be doing more coaching over the winter with larger groups at various clubs and think a projector would be a good idea. Some clubs have the luxury of equipment like this ready to use but as I can see a lot of use, I consider it a worthwhile investment and peace of mine that I'll always have the equipment that I want at hand. So, as I have no clue what I'm looking for, can anyone here help me?? I realize these things aren't cheap but obviously I am working to a budget. Preferably I'd like to be able to hook it up to my laptop via USB. So, who's in the know about these things??? Doug H

I share your interest Doug, and I'd also be interested to know which camcorder you bought.  I have access to a professional quality video recorder, but its a proper tripod mounted jobby so only good for use on shore.

I've got the Sany VPC CA9. It's absolutely brilliant and well worth the money
I thought. Bought it from cliftoncameras.co.uk

I doubt you'd be able to do video through USB using the laptop. You will need to make sure your laptop has either composite, component, VGA or DVI out. More than likely it will have a VGA out for using with secondary monitors...

It has a type of DVI I think....it may need a trip to the apple shop to get an
adaptor no matter what projector I might use.

I use HP projectors at work for presentations, i would get it out of the car for the model number but its bloody freezing!  I find them quick and easy to set up and very easy to use, can't say i have run much video through one though.

had my eye on one of those myself, might go on the xmas list however.. A lot of the cheaper projectors around are really designed just for home market and won't work that well in a sailing club during the day (i.e. can't close curtains) - eg Acer K10 - I think you should be really looking at 2000 lumens min for it to work successfully. The comparison table here looks quite useful With ex-hire I'd be a bit worried about lamp hours as replacement bulbs can be horrendous... Have you spoken to some of the other coaches about what they use?

| When you get one always make sure you let it turn off using it's own power down feature, if not you will cook the lamp and they are not cheap to replace! Having worked in a school where we had lots of our beloved teachers blow them up we changed the switched fused spurs to straight fused spurs so they HAD to power them down properly! | |
