So it all started with a text to dave b,  saying i have found a skiff what u think, a few phone calls and some excitement, we ended up striking an amaing deal for a 18footer,

we spent a day working on it and now its stripped and ready for a nice new coat of paint and some new sails, we have ourselves a very nice skiff

so we now have 6 of us an 18footer,

if anyone has any sails or know of any spare skiff kit to donate to the cause then please do it,

ill put some pics online soon

We think it is Gill, it is a light blue b18 from queen mary,

has a few logos, and looks like there were more on the bow that have been sanded off,

you know anything about it

Well done guys, you won't regret it.  I got your PMs, but sorry, there's no kites in the syndicate boat.  Don't even look at putting anything decent on until you've sailed it a fair bit and taped EVERYTHING up, we have put oodles of holes ours.  And even then we still managed to put a nice rip in the ex Rob G kite at Carnac first time out...oops!

Enjoy your new toy, take it easy and build up slowly.  There's plenty people on here infinitely better qualified to give you some tips but if you get really stuck, drop me a message.  As a starter, make sure your nets are OK or repaired as best you can, do some shore drills, and make sure you are practised getting your rudder down as that's always a giggle!

Dont worry rich, sorted out a kite (nearly!) and its another addition to the BLYM Race Team!

Should have it all sailing in the next month, i stripped the hull down and jet washed it yesterday (since club racing was cancelled - no wind) and have moved it into the club's work shop to dry out and for fairing and filling a few scrapes in the gunnels. Its then going to be moved to my front garden ready for spraying, then its going to be refitted and by then should have tracked down all the bits we need!

Does anyone know how to restore colour to faded blocks? I've been recommended the bumper colour restore stuff - black in flash? i think it's called from turtle, but i have also been told that this is only a temporary fix and its effects wear off. Any suggestions or recommendations that dont involve buying a new load of bits!

I think that if it is only the colour that has faded then don't worry about it. The back to black type products are normally oil based so will probably end up lubricating the surface (not what you really want in a cleat!). For restoring car bumpers and things I know that it is recommended to use a hot air gun gently and that will restore colour, or to use peanut butter (I am guessing that the combo of oil and rough peanuts do a similar job to the back to black products).

Yey thats 3 B18's i know that have been resurrected in the last year. Perhaps we need to setup a cheap and cheerful B18 series of get togethers.

Good luck guys. Post pics of your progress. Heres ours:
