Hull shape is important- it is easy to have a design that is quick in one condition but comprise for speed across the wind range is difficult. For the overwhelming majority (ie. all but top 1 or 2 in the fleet) better boat handling and better techniques would make a huge amount more around the courrse. If the cherub was an olympic class it would be a very different scenario. Also having a boat which finishes all the races helps more than what hull shape!

Hull shape - unless you fighting for the bullet, then its only about 5% difference in the hull. Yes you can have two VERY different boat one which is amazing in light and fluffy and one which is a deamon in the honking. but compared to two "similar" designs, as tim said - its all about the rig, crew (&abaility) and foils!

I agree.

So long as you've got a good rig and you're not too lardy (moi?), 80% is down to the p*^"@k with the stick, and the c*^! at the front.

get 2 people who can sail them well and that are the right weight, and if it has a sorted rig, and even Flat Stanley could still be right up there.

C'mon Ross, show'em what the old girl's made of (kevlar I seem to remember).

The big hull shape indicator may come into play next year when will and lucy get a new boat, shiney beast gets a new rig, and when some of the slugs (dangerous beans, and iains new one) get their act together

Yeah, well, he's going to isn't he?  An ex World Champion and RYA Olympic coach driving a Nationals winning boat race prepared to the highest standard (painted with yellow narrowboat paint and with Gul stickers and evrything) and rigged by an injured Nationals winning helm who once won a spraytop in a lucky dip at the 2001 Fireball Nationals is going to be a pretty unbeatable combination...

Just out of interest can you actually buy either boat (Daemon / GT60)?  I've looked on both the respective websites and theres nothing on there.  I'm not overly interested in buying one (bit short on cash at the mo, lol) but would be good to find out what the price differences are and what that buys you...

Also what is it about the snout on the GT60 that makes it non cherub class legal?  And if you bought one would it have lost the 10kgs to bring it in at minimum weight for a cherub?

It was not the snout that was the problem it was the profile of the stem.
The GT60 had a radius at the bottom of the stem the Cherub rules say that the stem has to be vertical for the bottom 200mm so that means a sharp corner on the bow.

I think the 60 refered to all up weight including foils, spars and sails.
wheras the Cherub 50Kg does not include most of those things.
If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

You can buy both, just not sure who will be building them! I know carbonology are interested in doing more, just need people to commit...
