In 1953 when she was built most boats had handles as very few people had seperate launching trolleys from their road trailors and didnt want to wreck the bearings on the trailors. Many boats were launched using handles. You can see them on early Merlins GPs Ents etc.

Very Very nice Roger! Shame I couldn't make it to Shearwater. Mind, I was collecting my new toy instead on Sunday...Shame about the name, best suggestion so far has been to change the H for a T!

yep Pierre is right its a very early totally original Hornet and your not stupid. I was talking to one of the early Hornet sailors a few months ago and he was telling me how they used to drag race across the estuary at Exmouth and show the 14s the way. Of course the 14s have developed hugely where the Hornets have developed but not nearly as far. Still a great boat to sail though.

What is it? If I had to guess I'd think an old moth but it looks too big.

Beautiful Hornet.  Is the other thing a Moth? Some modern boats have handles too...

My Semi-son-in- law bought a Hornet for little cash. It was a later single trap boat with a sort of raised sun deck mid ships for the crew to lounge on. I did crew it once and it had very long trap wires so that you were flat or teabagged. I would love to try a sliding seat boat. They go very well in most winds. I believe that they are " popular" on the Menia Strait (can't spell in Welsh). This boat sold now to fund B14with the boy. Had a go in that at the weekend, made me feel young again!!
