I would love to listen to music whilst racing. Many is the time I have thought about a waterproof CD/MD/MP3 player......but done nothing about it!!!

I have read that using music can relax/distract your conscious mind and thus allows your sub-conscious to take over the sailing (i.e. you perform much better).

This might apply more to dinghies than yachts though? (I'm a dinghy sailor.)

Depends on the Music at Cambridge some years back there was a study that showed that listening to music (Especially Mozart) whilst revising and studying increased students performance, most Consultant Surgeons operate to music, the problem though would seem to be in the classes (Most small dinghy's and keel -boats.) where electronic stuff is banned I-Pods - MP3s are not on the permitted list!
