Hi, I have recently acquired a flying fifteen and wish to antifoul it before next season. Can anyone tell me what the surface area of the the hull below the waterline is for this keel boat? Is there a formula for working it out that anyone knows?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

ask international paints they prob got a data base .

 

from experience if you want to race a fifteen with anychance of competeting you need to dry sail or at least scrub fortnightly or so.

 

I used vc17 smoothest antifouling known to man , but it attracted slime and had to be pulled frequently ,finish though was near as good bare grp and teflon contained may have even enhanced surface .Think I bought smallest tin available (not mini tins for waterlines )

 

If its an old fifteen - with bags , they had habit of sinking on moorings , consider  a cockpit cover and chute cover (unless bags ) in this case .

most fifteens are drysailed and have special trolleys to launch , even on fresh water (you still get slime if leaving in .

 

If your not worried about competing a tin of cheapest racing af should do and if too big there will be some for next year.

 

On my keelboat i've used non branded tins from£ £20 suids to top of range £70 squids and noticed no appreacatable difference from year to year .

 

good boats for a blast when windy off wind but Very wet .

Thanks for the info cat, I was planning on using a couple of coats of vc 17m with around 7 coats of epoxy tar as a base. The vc 17m comes in 750ml and 2 litre tins. As it is a 2-part mix I didn't want to waste any paint so I guess I should get a couple of 750ml tins and see how I get on.

As far as racing I am not that worried about performance as I have only recently started sailing and would like to spend a couple of seasons getting to grips with the sport before competeing seriously. I had planned to wet sail next year just for the convenience so I'll review whether to continue wet-sailing after the next season depending on the condition of the hull.
