Polyester has inferior long term life. Two boats that are fundamentally the same when brand new will be quite different after a few years of use. So I would be very suprised if an old polyester B14 held rig tension as well as an old epoxy one, but a new polyester one might well be as good as a new epoxy one.

As the owner of the B14 concerned, and yes thats me in the pic looking a little peeved off cause my lovely boat is slowly sinking and i'm taking off the sails before it goes down. I can confirm:

1. the boat is minimum weight - it was weighed at the worlds in 2007 at 62kg.

2. the boat was built about 2000.

3. The rig tension holds all day and is equivalent to the epoxy Ovington B14's.

4. i doubt any boat of any construction would have come off better after the collision we experienced at the tide ride.

I agree polyester has a inferior long term life, and all things considered an epoxy hull would be better however, at a price. The Rondar B14 still represents good value for money and second hand examples are a great entry level boat into B14 fleet sailing. My ship was a very good example and i hope to be back on the water asap.

You have to remember cherubs arn't built like the spice  They are a development class for one and they are lightweight. They are also preety quick. You said you got 15.4 knots in the spice today but i've been in a cherub that did 14 knots upwind and didn't brake. Infact we only had two brakages at the nationals. 1 was a fitting that wasn't glued to the floor enough and the other was ben chosing 1.5mm vectran to attach the kicking blocks to the temple vang.

How was the Spice compared to a Cherub then? Assuming you had a go this weekend. What was te wind doing at BBSC this weekend? If the Spice got 15 knots it must have been blowing!
