Dunno if it's still the case, but when I was a member there Loch Venachar ran two races with the first starting at 2:15pm! Again, a church thing traditionally. Alternatively, a lie-in-and-big-breakfast thing.

At Whitefriars we used to do 4 races on a Sunday, but the last race was pretty pooly attended, so we went down to 3. Guess what? The last race is sometimes pretty poorly attended, dispite being earlier than before. When I first joined, racing started at 12.30 to allow people to go to Church in the morning. Now, I've nothing against people going to church (my wife and kids do), but as far as I'm concerned, Sunday morning only has one purpose, and it involves more water than a font has...

We run four races on Tuesday Night for the Boards.

But the old dinghy folk can only cope with one on a Thursday 60 minutes or
three tri sausage laps whichever comes soonest.

Sunday is One in the morning, hour long.

We have done two, but one or the other becomes undersubscribed..

Dinghy folk just aren't fit enough to do more than one race without falling
off their perch we find..

We have the races split in to series. the morning race is Handicap (either Fast or Slow) followed by the 2 afternoon fleet races (yes people fleet racing) if you class has fleet status, there is a handicap racing for everything else. It was one of my reasons to go for the 8.1/Laser combination. I can handicap race in a boat that is competitive on handicap in the mornings, then in the afternoons I can fleet race and hone up my boat handling and tactical skills.

Doug - It's Swanage. The afternoon isn't wasted - it's for getting wasted!

The club has a membership base which can't commit to a full day of racing (unfortunately). It's been discussed before, but there just isn't the desire to hold two races, back-to-back or otherwise

I understand that some members have a long way to drive home and don't want their series destroyed by not being able to make a second race in the day.  But running an afternoon race as a seperate series, ie. a summer am and a summer pm series, would solve that issue.

We are very similar to jeffers above.

We have a leisurely lunch, and a small break between the 2 afternoon races.
We sail on a narrow river, and the stat/finish line used nearly all the time is outside the clubhouse, so no need for back to back races.

Roughly once a month we do not have a second race and do an hours training session instead.

We have 3 races at Hunts. First race 11:30 on Sunday, then a leisurely lunch with the second race at 13:30, last race a 15:15.

Time for a reasonable break between each race (we are only a small pond).

On Saturdays we run races at 14:30 and 15:45.
On Sundays we run a 45 to 1 hour race at 10:30 and two b2b twenty minute races starting nominally 11:45, but usually 12ish after a tea break. Folks don't seem keen to race later on Sunday afternoons, so we run training sesssions then.
We run a different schedule for open events of course.

How long do club races last?

Most of ours are 60-75 min. (we are on a pond). We are debating having a short race of 40 min on a Saturday as it is felt that our younger sailors in Oppies and Toppers are put off by the lengh of the race otherwise.
I don't suffer from insanity...I enjoy every moment of it.
