Keelboat and yacht are different things. A keelboat is a boat with a keel. A yacht is a boat with beds. There are multihull yachts without keels and a large number of racing keelboat classes that are not yachts, FF being a case in point.

FFs do indeed have a class in Cowes Week, which is a keelboat regatta.

If Y&Y are classing the K6 and Elite as "yachts", that's just wrong. There are boats where the line between keelboat and yacht is a bit blurred, and there is the whole "what's a sportsboat" question, but in no way on earth is the K6 a "yacht".

An Oil Tanker has beds but I wouldn't call it a yacht. According to Collins Paperback dictionary a yacht is " a large boat with sails or an engine, used for racing or pleasure cruising. A dinghy "is a small boat, powered by sails, oars or outboard motor". It doesn't provide a definition for keelboat.

So when does small become large?............... Face......bothered........

JOG is one of the major organisers of offshore and coastal yacht racing from the south coast and has informally defined its mission as running "racing for boats with beds". However I don't think oil tankers are invited.

So to summarise, FF are keel boats, and not yachts or dinghys, but race against yachts and dinghys on handicap sometimes....  so basically they do whatever suits them (or the event organisers) best
