The kitesurfing thing is certainly kicking off in Rio as well at the moment, All week there has been a ratio of 2 :1 kites over boards on the local beachs.
Thats freestyleing as well as point to point sailing going on.

There are queues forming to learn to kitesurf amongst the Weymouth lot and the place is awash with North kit (their agent lives down there and back doors lots of it).

you'll find quite a few of them messing around on boards in their free time (and yes, kite surfing too allegedly!)  Quote from one of the team members off record- one of the benefits of sailing for Team GB, being thoroughly spoilt rotten with pimp neil pryde kit!

Well I'd sooner see the money go there, than funding legal aid lawyers (on both sides) fighting for Abu Katada or whatever his name is, or providing mobility scooters to clinically obese kids, or carers and house demolition for 60 stone 18yr olds, or providing cars for our local immigrants to save on taxi bills when they need to collect their benefit cheques.

Interesting to note sailing is one of the biggest recipients of funds according to that telegraph article, twenty two million plus goes behind our team, compared with £25m for Atheletics £26m for cycling (the standout achiever)27m for rowing and £25m for swimming which has under performed.

I can understand the costs of sailing, rowing and cycling, but £25m for athletics? Are we using platinum coated tracksuits or something? How much are we paying for pumps?
This country!

Not sure about what other sailing the rest of them do, but Stu Bithell won the pursuit race helming a Merlin Rocket at the Tiger Trophy this year, when he could presumably have been off somewhere hot and sunny training
