Just watched the 5,000m wheelchair race and got bloody Rob 'Octopus' Walker doing the commentary!
It looked like a really tactical race but all we got was pre-prepared crap like on the sailing. He seems more desperate to come up with a 'They think it's all over' moment more than tell us about what we are watching

Just in case anyone is unclear on sports "journalists" competence when working on anything more complex than wendyball, then Ned Boulting book How I Won the Yellow Jumper is an excellent read.

For all of the critics of the Olympic commentators there is a chance to show us how it should be done.  Take look at my post this morning on the YachtsandYachting.com Forumites Open Meeting thread  Smile

Aye, Balding was superb- and thankfully she's doing the Paralympics as well.

Clare Balding, stationed at the swimming pool with Mark "oops my shirt fell off" Foster and occassionally the Thorpedo.... I can't imagine who thought that one up but well done, it was inspired, I was dying of laughter long before there was any (of the usual and thoroughly predictable) let down in the actual swimming events!  The South African dad was brilliant.

Even these chaps have nothing on the irritation front compared to Gary Richardson (I think he's the fella I'm thinking of)... I just don't understand the need for instant inane interviews. Although I do find it particularly funny when someone gives an unexpected answer and destroys their group hug ambience...

That's an even better point.  After all, most of the comments are pretty predictable and meaningless anyway.
