Thanks for the offer phil but when I'm up there I think I'll be a tad busy with the laser although I gonna try it at my club when our season starts. Hopefully I'll have put on weight by then aswell :)

So what's happened to the consortium of owners who were going to fund the Phoenix, sorry Vortex?

It's all gone quiet?

Hi Ginge
Just give me a ring (OI943 874644) and I can arrange a sail in the club vortex  (standard at present) . We are up every sunday at Grimwith (33 boats out sunday). Try and get there before 10 so we can set it up.
Not sure of your age ..though a  very good ex mirror youth has just brought one to the club....and learning quick.

Phil
Most boats ...currently Vortex (12 years)

For what it is worth, mine went south when I sold it and should now be at Queen Mary.

So they can't all be up North at Grimwith (which is a lovely place to go to the Vortex nationals BTW)

Ginge, it sounds as if you've set your heart on a vortex already so it is worth going up to Grimwith and sailing one for real. As really the best person to make the decision about if it the right boat for you is... you.

I knew a guy who traded his Laser in for a Vortex being sold the whole "speed of a cat, convienence of a monohull" stuff which was floating around at the time. Absolutely regretted it and came to the conclusion, speed of a mono with the handling of a cat, worst of both world. Went and bought a Dart and absolutely loves the thing now, so suppose every cloud has a silver lining.

Ha! im glad that video has surfaced again, i'd forgotten all about it. i reckon its terrys commentary that makes it funny.

Ginge: ive had 2 vortex's and now a laser the boats not for everyone but the guys who have one love them, borrow a boat and have a go, you've nothing to lose you'll either enjoy or be able to join in with everyone else sl*gging off what is a pretty good boat with a fantastic class association

Thanks for bringing up Jon's moment. I did the footage some years ago, I had to stop the tape as i couldn't stop laughing. Makes me laugh every time i see it.
ref the moulds. Laser kept promising them to the vortex class but had to have a big clear out with the new buyers coming to visit. That's what they say. More like they didn't want the new Vortex class to better there name.

I heard the best way to cover a cock up was to chop the moulds up... exactly what did LPE do with the Vortex originals?

Erm I suppose... But it seems like a clever way of covering a cock up to me? ;)
