Thanks for the information, sorry to take so long in thanking you, on further checking the deck seems to be OK, I just need to renew a peice of the trim on the rear which will be a pretty straightforward job.

Lots of info on this sort of thing at www.cvrda.org, the classic and vintage boat website.

I like the no nails approach, like jim says, as the nails are a source of damp getting into the wood. On a GP14, you shouldn't need staples, either, just more clamps than you'd think possible, and heavy weights.

Copper nails haven't been used widely for decades... how your deck is currently attached will depend on how old it is, but an awful lot of modern boats have the decks simply attached by glue. Often they use ordinary steel staples to hold the deck in place whilst the glue is setting which are then *ALL* removed and the holes filled before varnishing.

Sorry the above should read, I assume screws aren't used.

I have a  GP14 with a Glass Fibre Hull and a wooden deck, I am thinking of renewing at least the aft portion of decking this winter, and possibly more. Can anyone tell me how these decks are held down, is it simply glue or are copper nails used as well. I assume screws. I would be grateful for any information or tips.
