Went today, it was really buzzing, the bike and outdoor show is good, the boat bit seemed a bit flat but I think the venue is soo big now they've extended it, then I went right down the other end and the bit round the pool was fairly buzzing, they were having underbiter races, dinghies, kayaks all sorts of stuff, RS, Topper, didn't see Laser but I expect they were there somewhere. Couldn't find Y&Y, went for lunch in the RYA lounge only for them to call me on my membership which it turned out had expired in 2004 when I'd changed banks and they'd cancelled the direct debit, so got embarrassed into signing up again.
Had a look at a really neat J Boat, tempted but the breadknife would never wear it, brought some bamboo socks and undies, had a guiness, caught up with some old pals, one of which I now find is sailing a bloody solo, what a come down from Olympic Campaigning a flying dutchman, I pointed him at the Rs100 whilst pointing out he still had a pulse. That was about my day, other than the business bits I'd gone there for, even thinking about going back again on Sunday there's so much going on I missed.

On the Princess 32M I asked who buys them and the majority seem to be wealthy Arabs and Russians. The boat show model was off to the middle east. Maybe the £7.6M asking price is out of reach of most w/bankers.

aye- if they've not got a serious customer due, of course they're happy to give you a guided tour- it's just they don't want hordes on board messing it up for when one of the w/bankers aarives in the branded Rangerover.

I went to the biggest boat in the show and it had "by appointment only". So I asked for an appointment and they said yes!
It was the Princess 32M (105 feet) and was absolutely amazing. Despite declaring I had absolutely no interest in buying, the guy showing me around was so proud of his company and vessel they had created that he spent an hour pointing everything out. The bridge and engine room where particularly impressive. |

and you were not using them? ![]() Seriously, why would you build a £150k boat then get the world and his wife wanting to run their mucky fingers over it. The Sunseeker and Fairline stands dont care really, all they will di is rip up the carpet and sell on to someone else. Anyone able to link to the Laser 4.7 that is sitting on the back of the Fairline. I saw it on FB but can't find it via Google. |

I imagine that if you have even the slightest smell of rich banker (or even scruffy rock star) about you then you're able to book a tour for about 10 seconds ahead... I suspect that they want to avoid the 'oi polloi cramming up the boat and messing up the carpets so that potential customers are crowded out. |

The last thing they want is some rich banker buying one of their boats on a whim - no they have to book ahead. I've always been very confused by the idea that you can't be shown a certain boat at a boat show - seems to defeat the whole object of the excercise! ![]() |

Not really. I remember it being like that when I used to go to the Boat Show back in the early 70s. |
