mind you, dont get me wrong this it is exciting - the boat does look  fresher with the new sails and the some of the other bits are way over due for a 17 yr old design.

Nick Please accept my apologies then.  I had it all wrong.  If the fleet want the changes, then fair play.

there seems to be a very, very small group Rs inc. have chosen to 'listen to' on this.
They have not identified themselves by name, either here or via the CA or Yahoo group.

There is no groundswell of people trapped with an outdated rig around here.
There has been no canvassing of the membership.
So is it just a small clique with access to RS?
We don't even seem to have an AGM lined up

IMHO, well done the customer
and well done RS for going with it.
Hopefully both parties will prosper.

....and well done Grumpf for being a sh*t stirring b*st*Rd.

I agree, what's all this complaining about.

If a class doesn't evolve over time then it will die... and then the only option for the manufacturers is to bring out new classes! which when ever that happens seems to get even more complaints!

And don't dismiss making a boat look better as being unimportant. In this day and age few of us buy any thing, or are even seem with something with out giving its looks a thought. Try telling a car manufacturer that just making a car look better is no justification to change it!

As I said in the other thread its a lot more complicated than that: if a class dies then your boat is worth very little. If moderate changes can resuscitate a class and revive it then the resale value of the boat is much better so you will lose rather less in the long term even if you do have to shell out for some new rags earlier in the development cycle. You'll also have more boats to sail against and a better standard of racing.

So what counts as loyalty on the part of the manufacturer - dumping the old model when it stops selling more than a handful of boats a year, or doing something to revive it?
